I have a 76 L-82, and I have all the documentation EXCEPT the Tank Sticker/Build Sheet. First are they they the same thing? Secondly, where can I get a repro of the one for my car?
Generally they are (as rightly called "tank Stickers") on top of the gas tank. Now this area is not easily assessable and almost always requires the removal of the gas tank to have any chance of removing it reasonably intack. Now as photovette so eloquently put it, you still may go through all that trouble and find that it has faded/rotted/stained/...etc beyond readable. I think a lot depends on where the car has been. I got my Build Sheet off my '81 about 95% intack. However.... she was an Arizona car for the first 5 years and then garage kept ever since. Also (sometimes) extra copies have been noted to have been found behind the glove box (if applicable) and/or even under the seats.
Good luck and be VERY careful in removing it if your lucky enough to find it.
So... is there a 'trick' to trying without tank removal? I'd give it a shot if I thought there was even a chance. Mine may be in decent shape(?)... the car doesn't have rear window defrost so it must have been shipped south (or the owner was cheap).
It's tough, if not impossible to try to remove the tank sticker without removing the tank. After all, it's a 30 +/- year old document which had been exposed to the elements, and is glued to the top of the tank. Trying to remove it through the gas cap lid and/or from below will usually result in tearing/shredding/destroying the document.
No repro's available on build sheets for any St. Louis built Corvette. Chuck
