Is a dealer invoice the same as a window sticker?

Not quite, but close enough. The dealer invoice and window sticker were prepared at the same time with the information from the build sheet. The sticker went on the car; the invoice went to the dealer when the car shipped. The invoice lists all the options on the car and the cost to the buyer and the dealer.

Check with Allied Vaughn here on the forum. Their GM Media Archives Center has microfiche records of dealer invoices for Corvettes beginning with 1977. I was able to obtain the dealr invoice for my '80 L-82. They will want an address, a phone number, and you VIN. Have your credit card hady.

And the built sheet is most often found on top of the gas tank. You have to be very good with a needle nose or drop the tank to get it. Be carefull, they are OLD and fall apart.

Get the dealer invoice for your VIN# from Allied, it's like having a birth certificate for your car with all Options on it (and price).

IF it's still there. Not worth dropping the tank only to find nothing. Copies of build sheets have been found behind either kick panel, tucked in the springs under a seat, under the carpet in the rear storage area, in the wiring behind the speedo/tach, in the wiring behind the center cluster, and (at least once) folded and tucked in the rear spring mount. Any or all of these copies may have been found and removed by previous owners. On the chance any of them still exist, they are approaching being thirty years old. You can expect them to be extremely delicate and possibly illegible.

Without actual documentation from a previous owner, your best hope is a copy of the dealer invoice from Allied Vaughn.

FYI the cost for the dealer invoice is $50.00. i was able to get one for my 78 and was surprised by how prompt their service was. one work of advice however. the copy arrives in a plain legal size envelope that looks like it could be junk mail. i almost trashed it without opening it. luckily, something told me that the return address sounded familiar (or that it just looked a bit different than all the other junk mail i usually get), and i opened it. it took about 10 days to get my copy.

I used to be part of the group that initiated the GM Media Archive (also the GM PhotoStore: www.gmphotostore.com ).

The GM Dealer Invoice service is managed by a GM supplier, Allied Vaughn. You can reach them with an email to vehicleinvoice@gmmediaarchive.com. You will need your VIN number.

The cost is $50.00 per invoice. You can also reach them via snail mail:

Allied Vaughn

Thanks! I will be ordering one right away! Also has anyone ever ordered a window sticker from this site- http://www.window-sticker.com/ if so does it look real? They say they can make one from an invoice so I was thinking about ordering this too...

I don't think the site you mention is using actual data for your particular car...they are just simulating it with information from your invoice.

Allied Vaughn provides you a copy of the real-deal invoice, made from the historical records.

Original Invoice & Window Sticker

I received a copy of my original invoice from Peggy Veniza GM Media Archive 200 Renaissance Center, Floor 35, C-4 Detroit, MI 48265. I mailed a letter to these fine people with my VIN number name and address and received a copy in about two weeks. The cost to receive this copy was nothing. About the window sticker, the same window sticker was used from 1976 through 1980 and yes the window sticker pictured on the windowstickers.com web site is correct looking. There are re-pops of this window sticker sold on e-bay but they are not correct if you look at them close. The hard sticker to find is the warranty sticker. Both the window sticker and the warranty sticker card were affixed from the assembly plant on the right window. Once the car was received at the dealership the warranty card sticker was removed from the window and one of the 8 VIN number stickers was then removed and placed on the warranty card booklet and was in the new car packet along with all other original documents.

Brian:
It's probably been a while since you received that information from anyone in the Renaissance Center. That whole group no longer exists inside GM, and you need to contact Allied Vaughn, as indicated in an earlier thread. I think you might also be able to get the information from the National Corvette Museum.

Thanks for the update. Yes it has been a while, the envelope that the copy of the invoice is dated March 2005.

i don't remember exactly where i got a copy of a genuine GM authorized window sticker for my car, but there is someone out there that will take the information from the dealer invoice and make an exact copy of the window sticker for you from that info. it is on an exact duplicate of the window sticker form authorized by GM for that purpose.

in the event that you do not have the invoice (or have a car that they can't provide you one for) they will "re-create" a window sticker with information you provide to them as opposed to a generic one.

Some people have found a built sheet in their car and found out it was for another car that came down the line either before or after theirs. My 82CE came with the window sticker so I've never looked for my build sheet.

My build sheet...

I ordered a 1980 coupe in Oct 79 and got it in Jan 80. When I got the car home, I was checking around and found the build sheet was sandwiched
in between the rear spring leafs. The build sheet was not the same as the window sticker. The options were all coded or checked off and the spring rates were listed as well as the alternator and other items.
