Question: Build Sheets

I was told by the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green that my 1981 was built in St. Louis and the the build sheet was destroyed in a fire. Does anyone know where I might be able to get one? Maybe another supplier. I've checked and the original is not on the top of the gas tank. Bowling Green said they could reproduce a window sticker if i had the build sheet.

do a search... there was a thread a few years ago about being able to get a dealer invoice for some of the late St Louis vettes, eg 77-81
not sure if it they are still available with Obama running GM!

Not sure why the museum keeps saying there was a 'fire that destroyed the documents'. This is not true, AFAIK.

Start on the forum here and see if you can obtain a copy of the dealer invoice for your '81. The invoice lists more information than the build sheet and will serve the purpose of a window sticker since the window stickers were prepared from the information on the invoice.

I've always heard C3 build sheet information was not available, but I've never heard of information being destroyed in a fire. Sounds like another Corvette myth.

Yup, another "legend". There was no fire - St. Louis-Corvette simply didn't keep the paperwork; they teleprocessed the daily production data to Central Office every night, and pitched the paper.

Bowling Green started with a much more advanced data system than St. Louis had, and they archived the data on tape (which is where the Museum gets it).
