What does a build sheet tell one about a car? I went to the vette museum site and it appears my 82 will be one that they can provide - so why do I want one? I can also get some other stuff there like a window sticker...thanks, Lori

Lori,
Your build sheet tells you about your car at it's birth. It has all your options listed, and the dealership it was delivered to, and date (week) it was made. You need to get the build sheet to get the window sticker (go figure) but since your car has original paint, it will look good displayed in your window when the club you join goes to shows :) I have mine, but it has been repainted a different color, but still nice to have.

Lori,

Is it possible that your build sheet is still on your car? They typically are up under the gas tank but have been found in other parts of the car as well. If your car has not been restored, there is a good chance that it may still be there. It also will be in very rough shape, so if you can see a corner of it sticking out from under the tank, don't pull on it. Wait until you can drop the tank to get it. Mine had been removed years before I bought the car but it was given to me along with the original sticker and the first owners bill of sale as well as several other pieces of historical documentation. I was one of the lucky ones to get all that with mine.

Lori,

I reread my post and felt I needed to clarify. The build sheet is normally located on the top portion of the gas tank (up under the car, but top of the tank). Also, check out the similar threads below. There is some good additional information there.

Hey OceanGal,
As Craig says, it contains all the information of parts, colours and RPO's when your car was manufactured, and is how you tell if Matching numbers and basically the originality of the car.

Being an 82, you maybe able to get one fom the National Corvette Museum, as I did for my late 81. However, from memory there are a small group of 82's they dont have the build sheets for, but that group is stated, check on the site. Good Luck :upthumbs

While on build sheets, Question: Can anyone explain why mine has interior 642 DOE LTHR TR & 64I DOE INT TRIM, as interior codes. All the referance material I can find indicate the numbers are correct for an 81 but it should read "Camel" not Doe (which I assume is short for Doeskin). Any ideas????;shrug

Also does anyone know what NA5 FED EMISS (Assume Emission Compliance?), NB1 CLOSED LOOP (Assume computer system of some kind?), & UP8 STR RDO PROV (Assume Stereo Radio Provision? guessing big time) mean.

Any assistance appreciated.

oceangal,

Having the build sheet and window sticker is added documentation of your car. It's like getting the birth certificate and first report card ;) As the older Corvettes wander through life, keeping records and documenting it becomes a history or your Corvette. There are a lot of folks that would kill to be able to document everything about their Corvette, but run into deadends everywhere they turn.

kiwi,
I've packed up all my 1981 reference material, we are in the process of moving :eek If you have an assembly manual, take a look toward the back of the book, I don't recall the section, anyway, there you will find all kinds of GM/Corvette/Factory and PPG codes for paints and interior. As I recall they refer to the "tan" as Doe, Tan and Camel within the text there, depends who's code you look at ;), then throw in the build sheets and it can be called any of these mentioned :W

reason to have it?? it's nice to know how your car started out in life, lol. if you know that your car is all original (or restored to all original), it's nothing you NEED, but should be something you might want. be thankful that your car was made in bowling green and they were astute enought to realize that those types of records would probably be handy in the years that followed. for those of us with older vettes made in st louis, getting a dealer invoice is a real shot in the dark (not to mention $50.00), and after that the "window sticker" can only be a re-creation of the original. in my case, my car had been "bubba-tized" somewhere along it's life span and stuff was just removed or disconnected when it went bad (not to mention the wires cut for aftermarket stereo sets, etc (i'm sure it seemed like a good idea to whoever did it at the time, lol)). i needed the information to determine what my car looked like the day it rolled out of the factory so i could put it back together again correctly

Lori, if i were you, i would want whatever documentation i could get for my car. My 82 is in the VIN# range that BG doesnt have, but i was lucky to get the original sales invoice from GM Media (before they went $50, but i would have paid that too). Once i contacted the Dealer who sold it initially, i deadended but at least i have all options the car came with, original price (and vindication that my 82CE's VIN# is really a CE, not an imposter) from the invoice..
