Bumper impact skid plate?

I am curious about the bumper impact skid plate- the two metal pieces that project forward from the front of the C5 on either side of the spoiler. Does the bumpr itself mount anywhere to that assembly?

How much of a hit can they take? Would a hit throw the alignment of the bumper off?

The reason I ask is because I was coming out of a parking garage and I bottomed out (rather hard) onto them. Could that affect how the front bumper aligns to the rest of the front end? They don't appear to be off between eachother from looking at the front end from undr the car. The reason I ask is because I think my fit and finish is off maybe a cm or so between the left and right sides. I think this is affecting how the headlight housing appear in relation to the front bumper.

.....Or I am just paranoid and the fit was never that good and I am just now noticing.

I do not believe that the front facia is connected to the skid bars. It sounds like you need the A&A Frame Savers (bottom of page). I wouldn't be without them!

I hit a curb with one of my bars doing 100mph+. The bar and everything above it(radiator, etc.)was smashed up into the engine compartment but the nose and body panels are fine.

The rails you speak of are actually the lower radiator supports, which is why the poster above had his radiator shoved into the engine compartment. If you scrape them enough to wear them away, the radiator will come loose. I second the recommendation for the A & A Frame savers. They let the car ride right up on top of curbs or parking lot bumpers. No scraping, no damage. Also check out his Rocker Rails. I have both on my car. Right now, it looks like Andy, the owner, has the combo on special. They are at the bottom of this page.
