Looking to find out if anyone has ever tried to repair a rear bumper on a 1976? It is the urethane type and has a tear in it just above the exhaust pipe.

If you switch it out then you will need to get it painted. I think your best bet is to just take it to a body shop.

Yes they can be repaired, but Be prepared to do it again in a year or so. The urethane is getting brittle with age and will continue to crack in new areas. Best to use the "repair money" and install a new Flexible Fiberglass bumper. OEM Urethane is WAY expensive now as it is no longer made.

If it is in a non-stressed area (which is what it sounds like) then the repair should be successful. If the bumper has tears or cracks near the mounting area or around the lights, then I agree with KenSny's recommendation of a new flexible fiberglass bumper.
