I have a 99vert,with a A4. The kid next door has a friend that always burns a little rubber in front of my house when the Vette is in the drive. Now I'm 62 years young ,but want to show this kid what smoking the tires is. I have never tried it on my C5 ,some pointers please, thanks Jim.

Hit the brake and the gas at the same time to raise the RPMs without moving the car.
Once you reach around 3000 RPMs let off the brake while mashing the gas.

BYE BYE tires... hello big mark.

yeah and HOLD ON cause that thing will get nasty!

from a dead stop if you just floor it she should smoke but powerbraking to 3000rpm should definetly do it! :D

Don't forget to disable the traction control, or you'll make a lot of clunking noise and no smoke!!!!

You may want to go to a parking lot and try this if you never have done it. I wouldn't want you to hit a curb! These machines have lots of power....

Jim..

Wait for me, between the 2 of us we can make enough tire smoke to make mojo proud.

If I power brake my car with the ASR disabled it will smoke the tires until i realize how silly a stunt it really is and let off.

Change your "Corvette ownership", I think you sold the 93.

There was a good video clip posted here a few months back that showed how not to light'em up. A C5 ended up pointing the wrong direction in a ditch after hammering it from a stop sign.

I haven't been able to find the clip lately but the car came around in a hurry. Have fun and keep it straight.

Jeff

Sure hold the brake and mash the gas. . . .but there's a little more than that to do a good burnout. . . . .
-I believe it's best to leave your automatic tranny in 1st. If not it will shift and when you let off the gas it will downshift really hard. I've lost transmissions from that.
-Also the tires should let loose around 2300-2600- rpms. A good place to keep the engine is around 4000rpms. Plenty of torque there. Feather the gas to keep the rpm's and the brake to keep it in control.
-When done losing gobs of rubber and you can't see behind you ease off the gas and manually shift into 2nd and up into overdrive.
Guaranteed to turn a few heads and leave rubber as far as you want!!! :BOW Have fun, that's what they're here for!!!

Traction Control OFF
Clutch depressed
Engine to 3000-3500 RPM's
Dump the clutch and let her rip

make sure your in second gear......the 6500 rpm rev limiter hits very very soon...........

Dave Hill and I recommend that you select the "Competition Mode" to do burn outs! That way the car will try to help you keep it in a straight line during the burn out.

If you just hit the button once and turn everything off, you really need to practice a lot to avoid the spin out.

BTW, I was behind that red C5 that did the burn out into the ditch. Not pretty. Not smart either. Makes wife angry when she is on the side of the car that ends up in the ditch.

Well compition mode nailing the car will tear the tires off the rim. Also if you manualy shift it it will run up to the rev limiter real quick so dont look like a fool reving her up to high.Once the tires lose traction it real easey to keep them spinnig you do not have to over rev it.Have fun

be safe! nothing is worse then having a little fun and then being invoulved in a disaster

BY the way hello GLENN27 what happened to you sig picture in front of the church I LOVE that Photo

Ok I got the idea, I just want a little fun, there is an abandoned air field close to me. My Corvette cohort is a local cop, that teaches a driving course for police,I'll take him with me.. About 6 months ago up in town there was an older guy with a new Vette , tried to smoke the tires at a light, wound up going through a Nissan dealer front window, fortunely no one was hurt, thanks to all, I'll be careful, Jim.

Hi Jim D et.al.,
Mmmmmmm....you got extra bucks for new tires? I limit my tire smoking to parking lots and only when I have had a "bad" day at work. One quick squeal usually wakes me up and gets me back down to earth. I do believe, however, it is good practice for an occasion (which I hope never arises) where I need speed yesterday to get out of a bad situation. Keep driving and don't forget to wave.
