hey all,

The brown truck dropped off my rear sway bar bushings this afternoon. So I have the two sway bar bushings and the end link bushings. They also included something called "Prothane Super Greaser." What is this? Where/how do I use it?

I've never done any suspension work before so please help me out.

The grease should be spread thinly on all parts of the bushings that contact metal (ie, inside the bolt holes, outside where the bushing mounts inside a metal frame). It keeps things from squeaking - urethane is NOISY. However, it does wash away eventually. I have to re-do my Outback's swaybar bushings about once a year, though they're a different style than the Vette.

Incidently, if your rear suspension is like mine, you'll need a DEEP socket to get some of the nuts off - there's a very long bolt holding on part of the swaybar that has two nuts and some grounding wires attached as well. Also, I had to take the whole swaybar to a local shop to have the new endlink bushings pressed in. The old ones came out after some "persuasion" by a hammer and drill, but the new ones didn't want to budge without twisting.

:L I wish! I'm one of those types of people that will absolutely refuse to pay someone else to do something that I can do myself.

Rich,

I could just change the bushings and not the links unless I have to right?

I don't blame Edmond for not wanting to pay someone for a little suspension work. He will probably do a better job then most places that rush a job like that anyway. Edmond, you be the judge of what needs to be replaced or not. Look things over good and make a decision. Good Luck!

You can just change the bushings that hold the swaybar to the car, yes. You can do that with it still attached at the end links, since it'll swivel down off the car once you release the four bolts holding the bushing covers in place. However, to do the bushings at the ends of the swaybar, where it attaches to the endlinks, you need to take the whole bar out and be ready for some serious pressing. Unless your setup is different from mine...

I see a problem...

I took the spare tire off and surveyed the situation. One of the bolts that holds the bracket on is broken off! It looks like I may have to drop the muffler and extract it out right?

It's broken off at about where the top of the nut would be.

Any suggestions?
