Is is not usual and customary if you buy an expensive NOS part from a reputable dealer, that the part arrive in the original GM wrapper or box? I just bought the above part, which allegedly was NOS, but was wrapped in the Vendor's bag. The part in question did NOT work as it was supposed to, and I'm exchanging for the same part that does work.

Playing the Devil's advocate, I'm wondering WHY if indeed it was NOS, why didn't it come in the GM packaging? Was it sent to someone else first who sent it back because it didn't work and the original GM packaging was lost? Then did the Vendor simply rebag it in their name and put it back on the stock shelf and then resell it to me, hoping I would take it? The vendor has agreed to exchange this part, but I'm wondering if there isn't something hokey going on. What do you think? Thanks for any comments. :beer

Originally posted by c5d Usual & customary, rational & reasonable to expect a NOS part to be NEW & OLD STOCK. If it's new, it should be in original packaging. That's part of what you pay extra for. While the part can be used, reconditioned, or counterfeit, the packaging usually confirms the part is indeed NOS.

Thanks for the comment c5d, yes I did pay an extra $20 for NOS. I have always had a good relationship with this Vendor and I will see if they make good on their promise to exchange this part for the NOS part that works. If the exchange doesn't work out, I will post the Vendor's name. I HATE sending back parts that don't work or are for the wrong year, etc., but mistakes do happen occasionally. We shall see. :hb

I hate to sound like a jerk but whenever I purchase NOS parts I specificly ask if its in the ORIGINAL GM BOX OR WRAPPER.If its not I certainly dont purchase it as NOS. Sounds crazy but I purchased a NOS temp sender and it also arrived in a regular baggy.I called the supplier and question them on the part and was told I misunderstood (althought my billing invoice said NOS ) I was purchasing a used temp sender.needless to say I returned the part and never used them again.

there are alot of scammer's in our hobby (not that I am saying your suppliers is a scammer) but the box/wrapper and condtion of the part bring us at least a little closer to thinking it truly is a NOS part.

The '67 is coming along very slowly, simply because when you take apart a 35 year old car, things break and need to be replaced or rebuilt. I'm taking a break this weekend though and detailing my Z06 with Zaino. :beer

I also use ZAINO and work my but off with the multible layers.I think it looks excellent but a detailer freind has explained any product I use as often with multible layer will give the same results. This is my C5 or as the plate says my wifes C5 after about 2 hours of work

PS I LOVE the choice of colors of your cars

NOS means different things to different people. You should always ask the seller what they mean by NOS.

Patrick,
In all fairness to the vendor, an awful lot of the parts sold in that era did not have any packaging! I have had a huge ammount of pre-1970 vintage dealer stock for C1 cars that have had only a IBM punch card parts tag attached to it with masking tape! I am talking about trim, weatherstrip and and many metal brackets and stampings. Pretty much all the Delco parts came in packaging, but many other parts did not. I have items like bumpers and windshield posts that came wrapped in padded paper with string binding them together! Most of the trim that I have came with only a blue rubbery dip coating on it, no other packaging.
Unfortunately, The term NOS does not allways mean absolutely correct and matching the original configuration. While it may in fact, be New Old Stock, it does not mean that it is correct, New Old Stock! The NOS Tail light lenses that you see sold widely for 58-60 cars are no better than the trim parts repros. In order to get truly original lenses, you need to pass on any lense in a blue and white package and look for the old orange and black package.
