In 1971 at least, the horn relay was coming with a buzzer. It is not clear to me what the condition(s) is(are) supposed to be to trigger the buzzer. Mine does buzz when I open the driver's door with apparently no other condition. I feel this is somewhat helpless so I keep the wire disconnected so that it does not bugg me.
Anyone has a better explanation of the purpose of this buzzer ?

Mine wouldn't turn off and found that the buzzer/relay fine wire inside was cooked.I tried to resolder but the rest of the wire was too brittle.I found the exact same buzzer/relay in a 70 Caddillac at a wrecking yard for $5.Works great now.

Key completely in ignition and driver side door open.
The combination {driver door open}+{ignition key in}+{engine not running} makes sense to me.
Funny enough, my buzzer (when connected) works when the driver's (not the passenger's) door is open, whether the ignition key is in or not.

The key switch has failed/broken in the top of the column (common problem); the steering wheel, lock plate, and turn signal switch have to come out to replace it.

Thank you John. I will look into that. In the meantime I have disonnected the buzzer.

Finished redo of interior. Re connected the courtesy lights and the buzzer goes off until I close both doors. Sound familar? Found a schmetic of the warning syst. The horn relay is also the buzzer if you leave your key in the ignition. It runs thru the ignition switch and the door open switches. I disconnected pole # 4 on the horn relay. End of buzzzzzzzz. Don't have the juice to mess with the ignititon switch right now.
