C1 convertible top jig

So I need to have my convertable top frame sand blasted and painted,prior to having a new top installed on it.

My question is, has anyone ever made a "jig" to hold it while its being sand blasted or painted,

I am thinking Ill just start laying out some wood frame work or maybe some 3" pvc piping to some how hold it in a position while trying to keep it light enough to work with.

By tomorow night I should be posting photos of my car painted,It goes in the paint booth tomorow morning,I had to remove it from the rotisery today for the last time.

Larry,

You will not be satisfied unless you completely disassemble the entire top to it's component parts before blasting and painting. There are just too many nooks and crannies that will hide from the paint gun or blaster. Blast the entire thing and then paint with urethane or have it powder coated. Most tops need all new bushings and pivot bolts anyway.

Larry, You really are on the fast track with your car! How did you make out with the Slick Sand and what type of paint system are you using?

John are the rebuild parts available for the tops? I dont remember ever seeing them. I guess Ill be taking that top apart in the coming weeks.

at the last minute before they painted the bottom of the car they switched from the system we had planned (global) to a system called Speis-Heckler and allthough I am not falimilur with the system I have the utmost faith in the painter

Larry, Paragon has the complete rebuild kits - about 150 pieces, around $100.00 - has all the screws, pins, washers, bushings; they also have the kit with the rivets, bushings, and wave washers for $40.00.

Larry as you know I'm not a paint expert by in my research for my own paint I think I remember Spies Hecker as being a top of the line system. Can't wait to see the pics of the new paint. I know you are very excited about it, it's a great feeling to see the car come together in paint after all the prep work.

Just finished mine about a month ago. Used Jasco prep and prime for the rust.
Would have been easyer if i had a bead blaster. Wire brush and sand paper.
Only took 4 cans of semi-gloss but it looks great. Take lots of pictures as it
comes apart. If you need more i can e-mail them to you.
I need to find out how to post pictures.

Thanks guys for the advice.It may sound funny but working portions of the top worked so well once I lubricated them I thought I could get away with a quick repaint before the top went on,But any time I try to save some time.I end up having to repay it 10 times over,So I will study it tomorow and place an order with paragon this week,I am sure they are worried what has happened to me I have not placed an order with them in over 12 days.

Gasman posting a picture is not that tough.(If I can do it every one can)
2 ways

1 is as an attachment witch is availble to you thru the forum,but you have to resize your photo to a certain size,the other way is to use one of the free online photo hosting sites and upload your photo there and then insert it here .I chose to use an online site (that I pay for) so i dont have a problem with the amount of photos I can show.
