I was looking for the door key lock linkage for my 61 the other night. I looked at the one on the passenger side which had already been installed and I was thinking it looked very familiar. I searched and searched through dozens of zip lock baggies sure I had it in there somewhere, but to no avail. I sat frustrated by the fact I was sure I must have it. Suddenly it dawned on me to look in my Carter WCFB box of spare parts... there it was right where I had put it 3 years ago right next to the accelerator pump linkage for the WCFB. How could I make such an error in storing this part? Look at the attached photo. It's things like this that drive me nuts. ;LOL

PS: Carb linkage on top, door linkage on bottom

At least you found them. since i did'nt take my car apart, i'm finding how much i really need.

How are the door rebuilds doing? I am not looking foward to that part of the project.

I am atempting to get my car running this week end. Then I will tackle the doors.

I always say orginize your parts as there coming off.Nothing is worse then having to sift thru all of your parts for one minor peice that stops you in your tracks.

Been there too many times, thats the only time youll hear me muttering under my breath,

"what was I thinking"

"who in there wright mind would attemp to repair a car like this"

" I should just take up drinking"

Yup this is the only reason I lose my cool is when I am searching for a misplaced part or a tool.

Actually I I mutter alot worse things i just dont want to embaress my self repeating the vulgar launguage that some how slips out,I mean full paragraphs worth

Yeap... heat, lost tools, misplaced parts, confined spaces, clutter..... recipie for self-destruction. When these conditions exist, I usually find myself in an argument with the Mrs. (honey, where did you put XXXXX -- I know you moved it) and an apologetic state shortly threreafter when I find it under a shop towel or something.

Who do you think put it under the shop towel?

Larry,

You should be dreading the door rebuild. This is my least favorite C1 job next to the windshield replacement! LOL You will probably find that you have to grind on the inside door reinforcement a little, the power regulators would not go past them on my 59 without a little grinding. It was tough getting the die grinder in to get at them, but it did not take too long. Also, make sure that you drill the hole from the switch location, for the harness before you install the motor, it makes life a lot easier. I spent ALL night last night wrestling the A/C evaporator back in place after repairing the silver-solder joint on the low-side hard line. GRRR! That will teach me not to leak test stuff before installing it!

Larry the doors were not that bad. Maybe that is because I was expecting it to be much worse than it was. No power windows either. I fastened my cove trim first... which you don't have to worry about. then the door posts, then the outside door handles, then locks, latch, then linkages, then the glass back in, then the stainless/weatherstrip on top. I think that is the order. One window had a small crack so I had the glass replaced (no tint) at my local glass shop. The glass for the doors is flat so it can be cut at any glass shop. The teeth on the regulator on the drivers side has a bad spot but I decided to deal with that at a later date... after Carlisle.

If you have any unidentified parts post a picture and I'm sure one of us will be able to identify it. :)
