C1- What do you think about this auction??

I think I'd have to see that one in person. I looked at a lot of cars on the internet that didn't have nearly the appeal in person once I went to look at them. They all seem to look good on the internet. Also, the "rules of engagement" seem bizarre to me. Somebody may get a fantastic deal here but "buyer beware" is what keeps coming to my mind.

Check out the completed auctions ... looks like this guy specializes in small electronics. Now this doesn't mean that he can't be selling a Corvette but it makes the auction seem more unlikely.

Yeah, why all the redirection and if it is above board why not a regular auction with a reserve? No one in his right mind is going to "give" that car away for $26k. It smells fishy at best. I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

One thought: Probably taking bids by phone and keeping the auction listed price at $26k to avoid auction fees with ebay?

I just hate to think of someone getting burned on this. It looks like a hijacked auction to me.

is the vin a vette vin?

Smells like fish...

Something fishy is right. Looks like a makeover, wheels/tires are wrong, something about that firewall doesn't seem right. And, we know '62's don't have painted coves.

"Buy it Now" for 26K?! And the lead in, 'must have seller approval', etc.-that just hits me as very odd.

Proceed with caution...;squint:

Yep, it's odd.

But I don't think it's necessarily a scam. It sounds more like a used-up Corvette being sold by a couple of idiots. Both of them are afraid the boogerman will crawl out of the computer screen to get their hoopty.

The $26,000 price isn't unusually low for a '62 that has been smacked in the nose and poorly repaired. It apparently has a replacement block. The frame metal could be rusty; the dealer tag on the back is from Florida. The wide whites on rally wheels certainly don't add any value to a buyer.

The auction description doesn't re-direct bidders to any mysterious e-mail address. You are supposed to contact the listing seller for "pre-approval" to use Buy-It-Now though. That's a very, very strange requirement that is completely unnecessary.

But maybe the seller isn't a complete fool. By making his auction terms so weird, he sure got a lot of publicity for it.

good old eBay...home of scams!

I'll give you an example.... a customer of mine bought his dream car off eBay last year, a 1963 Impala SS convertible. You all know the drill, had one in H.S., always wanted another, etc.... This gentleman paid nearly $17K for this car, which looked great in the pictures. He was told it was a solid, nice car and he thought it a good foundation for his needs.
It's currently getting a body-off redo (completely rotted out and loaded with mud), and of course, the "327" that was in this car was a 283 with decals and a dead hole, shifter built out of all-thread, etc. I'm figuring once he's done with the car, he'll have near 90-100K in this project (it's a custom, not concours resto). Buyer beware!

Another One

I ain't buyin' it:eyerole

Ebay Deals

WOW

I Did see that the buyer who bought it gave the seller positive feedback ??

Thats amazing to me

Maybe he got a good deal

I just sold my GTO Judge on ebay and the guy drove down from Indiana to Texas before he gave me a dime

Same thing I would do

But you never know

it may have been legit
