C2: Leaking Oil by Bolts that lead to Dash Oil Gauge Line

OK I am a total nonmechanic with a C2 (female). I have had it for 3 years and have done good so far with fixing things as I find them. I noticed today when I was checking the oil that I have oil coming out by the two bolts that have a line coming out of them that goes to the gauge in the dash. Its only a small amount of oil that leaks out but when I wipe it off it comes back.

Is this something I could fix by just trying to tighten the bolts tighter?

The oil line that connects to the back of the oil pressure gauge is a compression fitting. There is a small metal collar around the tube that actually seals up the connection when tightened.

One of two things is the culprit:
1. Connection is loose - you can try to tighten it (small increments)
2. Compression fitting - the small metal collar is too deformed to seal properly. In this case you'll probably need a new line

I'm a small guy so I have no problems contorting to fit under the dash - I use a small distributor wrench to tighten and loosen. My C2 gauge has a pretty bad oil leak as a result of many tighten/untighten cycles and I will replace the line. A new line w/fittings costs about $8.

Vanessa - one more thing you might try --- if you can get that collar or sleeve off and replace it with another you can re-eastablish a tight fit by using a new section of the line (in addition to the new collar). This way you don't have to disconnect from the block and thread a new tube through the firewall.

The problem is finding some place that sells compression collars for the small tubing. If you have a humidifier attached to your furnace with copper tubes, it works the same way. You'll see what I'm talking about when you pull it off.
