OK, you C3 experts, I need some help or your comforting feedback on my 1981 Vette selection. I brought it to my mechanic for a state inpsection and he is a real Vette officinodo and pointed out some weld cracks when you open your door, looking forward at where the front fender/hood connects to the door frame. It is hard to explain - is the location clear ? just above the top door hinge. He said they are created by improper support when put on a lift by a garage or even not putting your floor jack in the right spot. He said it should not affect the car performance or drive, but it is something to look at.

That said, I did a lot of research prior to purchasing my first Vette and I never read anything about checking out for this twisting / stretching weld cracks on a Vette. Please tell me this is not a big deal, that you did a fine job in your research and the selection of your dream car !! Thanx !! John

I think you are refering to the fiberglass to metal (bird cage) bond on the front door jamb. This will crack with age because of the two different materials and flex. I just did a complete removal and replacement of this glass work. I am not sure on the lifting of the car, I use a floor jack where the transmission crossmember fits to the frame rail and jack it up Nascar style.

It does happen because of lifting the car but its not due to lifting it wrong it just.Even if it is lifted in the correct areas it is obvious the front of the car is too heavy. Its a common thing to see on c3s.
