I have been contemplating this upgrade since I got the car in August. Background: In March of last year, I installed Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks in our '98 Silverado Z-71. I am a fan of Edelbrock product (no, no commissions, really) and thought I would give this a try since the Z-71 Bilstein fronts were leaking (90K miles). Read the product reviews on their website, including one from a guy who put them on an S-10 and then his Vette. I thought, well-okay, try it on the truck. Sure enough, they are incredible on the truck. We go camping, drive dirt roads, etc. Most washboard roads will make a pickup truck 'dance' around a bit. This truck rode like a Cadillac on airbags. Awesome.
But, they aren't cheap, and there are plenty of projects asking for money, so: I'm thinking of doing this, but would really appreciate the opinion of others out there. Mostly normal driving, occasional spirited driving on mountain roads, but nothing extreme like racing-either straight line or twisties. Our roads do have bumps, holes and frost-heaves here. Tires are BFG 225-70 T/A radials (not my first choice, came with them and they are too new to change yet).
Do you folks have an opinion one way or the other regarding these shocks, or recommendations for something else? On the car now are pretty new looking Sears Road Handler or Steady Handler grey-bodied shocks (can't remember just now). Thanks for your advice.
