C3 speakers

I must say that in my experience, you get what you pay for when it comes to speakers and sound equipment in general. It's easy to get taken with stuff like this because its all solid state electronics and most people dont look that close at something unless it has "moving parts".

Also, I have done alot of business with ecklers and in my experience they are really only good for the true stock replacement parts. They dont seem to be a good place to get good custom stuff.

I think you would be better off going to a Best Buy or comparable store and getting the speakers yourself, ( they can usually tell you what will fit ) or if its a little more boom you want, it is very easy to build a thin speaker box that slides right up to the back of the vet. Then just cover it with carpet to match what you have and it will look like it is supposed to be in the car. Just remember that the wood work doesn;t have to be perfect or pretty because any flaws will be covered up by the carpet.

Tom is quite correct--you get what you pay for in speaker quality--I think the in dash speaker fit is probably more critical than the kick panel speaker--there seems to be a fair amount of room in the kick panel for any number of kinds of speaker than can be purchased cheaper at Best Buy or any large stereo business. Corvette World sells a really nice indash set for the C-3. Direct bolt ins and have excellent sound. I believe they are a 2-way speaker. They run about a hundred bucks.

Speakers

Thanks guys for the good feedback, I agree with what you've said, just thought I'd ask. I'll check into the Corvette World lead also.

I wish I had asked this last fall. Over the winter I took the dash all apart and put in some new speakers among other things. On the advice of a friend I installed some Boston Acoustics (about $130). They are just awful sounding, they're worse than the Radio Shack ones I took out!!!!!!!! After all the work to get at the drivers side and install a new one, I'm really p***ed off!!!!!!!

Anyway, thanks for the good info you guys.

The best speakers in the world will not sound good if you dont have enough power to run them. Im not saying you should get an amplifier, but dont think that a 200 Watt speaker is going to give you 200 W. It means that the speaker can handle 200W. You only get as much power as the head unit puts out, usually not more then 25W per channel, and thats high. Keep in mind that real good speakers will sound real bad if only hooked up to your in dash radio. There's simply not enough power there. Get either speakers meant to handle a lower power range, or add an amp.

Thanks for the reply 80redbeast. I upgraded the existing cassette/radio to a Panasonic CD/MP3 player but I don't think I'll add an amp; too many other things needed for the car that make more sense. So I'll take your advice and match the speakers to the radio performance.
Take care,

Bill

I installed the speakers you have mentioned. They sound great and easy to install....they are rated at 200 watts, so make sure you have the right receiver.

Feltman, I'm sorry for not responding, I've been away. Thanks for replying about those speakers. I saw them also on the Corvette World page too, maybe they're made by the same place.
