I am getting ready to start bonding in heat extractors with my father in law on my 94 LT1 and need some advice. What should I use for the resin? I know the Vettes are made out of a composite (SMC?) and do not know if fiberglass resin will get the job done. Is there SMC resin

We don't get many questions about body work, but if there's someone here who knows, they'll be speaking up soon. Hang in there. :CAC

Fiberglass, as used on the older generations, is okay, but I used Evercoat #864 SMC fiberglass resin '3' and Evercoat Professional #500 Colorless FInish Coat, to fix a broken-off piece of my rear fender, years ago, after discussion with my friend, who has sold Dupont products for decades in his automotive paint store. I used the standard fiberglass cloth in the Vees I made on both sides. Not only did I profit from the insurance check, but the fix is still flawless.

Follow the mixture directions closely if you've not done this before. Too much hardener and the mixture gets way too hot and will be brittle or set up in the mixing container; the other way the stuff will take forever to harden. Practice, helps.

Ok, here is an update.
I talked to a friend who works at a body shop that has done a good bit of Corvette bodywork. Fiberglass resin will not work with bonding SMC to fiberglass. If it does bond it will be very weak at best. He recommended some stuff called Fuser 127EZ or also called T24. I got a package last night. It comes as a twin tube, self-mixing unit and costs $36. You need a special caulk gun style tool to apply, this gun is $50.
I will start my project tonight. I will update how it works.

I have a similar problem . The floor at the passenger side in the footwell has a big hole . Is there same material used as for bodywork ?
I will have to close the gap , don' like to get feet wet inna rain :)

He is correct. There are also simalar products by 3m and a company called duramix. They are less expensive than fusor but you still need the special gun.

I think the footwells are straight fiberglass... anyone know for sure?

Fiberglass, with an aluminum plate riveted to the outer lower portion where it transitions from the floorpan to the firewall. Mine was cracked badly there too. The floorpans under the seats are aluminum.

Thanks . I thought it was fiberglass when inspected it , just wanted to make sure .
Gonna start molding :)
