Hey Guys!

I have an early '86 with the iron heads. A little question about roller rockers here.....

I got a killer deal on a pair of trick flow 23 degree heads, and plan to use them on a rebuild down the line. Not ready to use 'em right now, but couldn't pass on the deal. Right now, I just have the time for smaller hop-ups.

My question is.....I wanna stick with the iron heads for now, and wanna put some roller rockers in there.

I wanna be able to use those same roller rockers (if possible) down the line when I do the rebuild and use the Trick Flows. What ratio should I get?

Thanks!

Sorry.....guess this went in twice.....]

Forgot to mention.....yea, I will probably go with a cam on the rebuild.....nothing radical though.

Be sure to select a cam specifically for use with the TPI. There are many SBC cams, but most of them are best used with carbureted engines.

A good source of cams specifically for TPI are Lingenfelter and SLP.

Good luck,

Thanks.....yea, I have some ideas......but it'll be a while. I'll be sure to get some opinions here before I do anything.

Thanks!

You can go with 1.5's or 1.6's but you probably won't be able to use them on a different set of heads unless you have very low miles on them, and you'll probably want to set up the new heads with the larger studs.

Thanks.....yea, i'm sure it'll probably be very low miles.....i probably only do 2-3k a year or so.....at any rate probably 6k max.....what are the pros and cons of 1.5 vs 1.6?

Thanks for the reply!

Unless you will be building a really high rpm engine, your stock studs will be fine. The 1.6's will add a little power with not too much downside with a stock cam. When you start selecting more cam, you will have to take into account the 1.6 rockers in your cam selection.

There is no reason that you can't reuse the rockers when you go to the next step.

Good luck,

Na, not planning on anything like too radical.....thanks for the comment!

Go with Harlan Sharp 1.6 Roller Rockers, they are good quality and inexpensive at around $200.

Good luck,

If he goes to the next step with center bolt aluminum heads, won't he need narrow RR's? I'm not sure, but I believe that's what they use.
