C4 Mileage... Revisited

I could get 25 mph out of mine on the highway but I can't bring myself to stay out of the secondaries.

I think I will tackle that job next. I have not been able to do much work on my car because of health reasons. I have had the 3rd and 4th surgical procedures on my heart since May. Today I tackled fixing the Dimmer switch. As you know we are in a frigid time right now in Indiana.;) After successfully proving I can still work on my car I have started to plan the plugs, wires, Front rotors and brakes. But I may have to wait for a little warmer weather to work on those things.:J

Hey John,

Yes, the icicles are just terrible to work around for me too. :crazy

I started doing the plugs and wires myself and ended up taking it to the dealer to finish the job. It's a huge pain in the booty to get the wires changed. I could have finished the job... eventually. After paying the dealership $425 to put on 4 plugs and 4 wires... I'll do the whole job myself the next time. :mad

I've already replaced the brakes all around on my Vette. That's a fairly easy job.

Have fun!

Huh... you guys have secondaries? ;LOL ;LOL

Yup, the LT5 engine has 16 fuel injectors. Eight of them work at low speeds. At about 3,500 rpm a secondary throttle plate opens up to let more air in along with the other eight injectors spraying a ton of fuel.

The valet key (power key) limits the driver to only the first eight injectors. You have to turn the key to full power to energize all 16 injectors.

Pretty cool, huh? :D

Did that option only come on the LT4? :confused I knew about it, just didn't picture it being considered secondaries. :D

The LT5 engine is in the ZR-1. The LT4 engine is in my 96 Collector Edition.

The LT5 engine was a joint venture designed by Lotus Engine in England and Mercury Marine in Stillwater Oklahoma. The LT5 engine has dual overhead camshafts, 32 valves, 16 fuel injectors and a whole lotta HP!

The LT4 engine has camshaft in block, 16 valves, 8 fuel injectors and a whole lotta HP!

Ahhhhhh.... thanks for setting me straight Greg. That valet key thing has been in my head but I couldn't remember the details.

Glad to be of assistance, good buddy! :)

"secondary" for a secondary induction system. There is a whole second set of intake runners and injectors, complete with 8 butterfly valves to determine when it kicks in. Pretty neat... :)

I was surprised to get 26.9mpg over 200 miles when I first drove my new (to me) ZR-1 home back in May. Amazing the power the 'vettes make yet while still returning great mileage. What other sports cars can get 25+ mpg?

I miss my stock setup for fuel econ. with the stock lt1 a4 w/ 2.59's it was awesome.. but now my car really kicks.. but costs a whole lot more for fuel.. I see on average 15-17 mpg I would say w/ my 2600 stall and 3.73's and LT4 top end w/ LT4 hot cam..

15.8 Hiway on a drive from LA to San Jose, CA. Mostly freeway, with a good dose of rush hour; no cruise control and a wandering 'go' foot; speed target was 75+/-, with jaunts to ???.:lou

What a blast to have such a sticky car for the twisties of Hwy. 152 near Gilroy and 500+ hp for a dash here and there, to pass or not. Problem is, it is way to easy to race thru 90! :upthumbs

Lots of these--->>> :w
