I'm going to get a Z06 within the calendar year. I could have posted this on the Z06 board but the questions are generic C5 questions.
Background:
I recently built (but sold) a 2000 Mustang GT 5sp with the following stuff.
Roots type supercharger with air to water intercooler
Ported Intake and Heads
Oversize TB with Cold Air Intake through K&N Filter
New exhaust (headers to tips) w/no cats
New suspension & Wheels/Tires
To get sufficient fuel for the larger mass of air the SC stuffed into the cylinders, I had to install 30 lb injectors and because the 00GT used a returnless fuel system, I had to use a KB boost-a-pump to overdrive the fuel pump to get sufficient flow.
To tune the beast, I got a piggy back tuner (MAFterburner) EEC tuner, put the car on a chasis dyno and tuned the A/F into a range of 11.7:1 - 12.1:1.
Everything worked and I got a torque peak of 393 ft-lbs at 2750 rpm and a power peak 343 hp at 4250 at the rear wheels. The car was fun for a while and I did burn a couple of unsuspecting C5 owners but with the live rear axle and so much torque at low rpm, it was extremely difficult to put all the power on the ground and I had to be really careful coming out of corners hard. Not to mention it was really loud.
I'm definitely going to tinker with my new toy when I get it. Questions are:
1. Where can I read up on how the C5 fuel system works. Things I'm interested in include is the fuel system returnless or w/return line? Does the ECC program have a closed loop (part throttle and cruising) and open loop (WOT) program? If not, how does it work?
2. Most factory stock sports cars benefit from opening up the exhaust with headers and elimination of the Catalytic Converters (yes, I know; off-road use only). Does anyone make off-road X-pipes for the C5? Does anyone make the plug-in MIL (check engine light) eliminators for the C5? Has anyone done a before and after dyno with headers vs stock exhaust manifold?
3. Does anyone make good tuning software for the C5 yet? Something that you can use to adjust the A/F and ignition timing as a function of rpm? If not, how are people tuning their C5's?
4. Do any of the aftermarket intake tube/filter assemblies actually make power on the C5? Any back to back dyno tests?
I appreciate any help you can provide.
Thanks,
DSL
