I have a '97 with the typical gas gauge nuisance. Tried Chevron premium gasoline (this is all I use) but still have the gauge failure issue. Thought I read some where that someone had cleaned the surfaces of the gauge mechanism and resolved the issue. Has anyone tried this and been successful?

Also, if I must replace the gauge, how do I disconnect/re-connect the factory gas line lines to the new gauge?

Thanks.

Hey Dragon-
Yes, I had the dreaded "insta-empty" fuel problrm with my '98. It would subside using Tectron or Chevron with the additive. So last winter I was bored and pulled the fuel pump out of my driver's side tank and used some 320 grit sandpaper on the sweeping surface. If you take the pump out it is obvious where the surface in question is. I was VERY careful when sanding as the contacts are fragile. I did that and it has worked fine since. I used the directions in the manual for removal and reassembley, good directions.

Best of luck!!

Tank,

Thought I heard the same from someone else. Now that I have two data points suggesting this process, I will give it a try.

Thanks.

Had the "insta-empty" problem with the '98 but that's gone away with the use of Sea Foam and Techron Fuel System Cleaner, however, the gauge will never go ABOVE 7/8 tank after filling. Is this still the same problem [tank sensors]?????

Hey Tank what did you use to put the screws back in the gas tank? I have found that the torque on them is very low 13nm i think and I cant seem to find a torque wrench that goes that low. Since the tanks are plastic I dont want to over tighten.
