Hi all,

Anybody notice inthe MT article that the car requires the user to put it into reverse to turn off the engine? This is due to the fact that there is no key (well - it's in your pocket) and for "safety" reasons GM is requiring the car to be put into reverse (assume it would be stopped then).

Can anyone confrim this? Not sure of the C6 but it's a ***** to get my C5 into reverse! Hope this isn't the case or can be defeated with a SW change or some CAGS defeat type device.

Thanks,
Steve

I noticed that too; I think I also read it in Corvette Quarterly but don't have it with me now to check.

I usually park with it in reverse anyway. If it is too hard, sometimes inching forward a hair then trying again helps.

reverse shut off

the engine can be shut off w/o putting it in reverse. The acc. mode does not shut off unless you put the manual shifter into reverse. if you don't it like leaving a car with a key the acc mode -battery could drain down overnite. Reverse is always the safest gear to leave a stick.

If I'm pointing UPHILL I prefer to leave my car in 1st. Pointing DOWNHILL I leave my car in reverse.

October Corvette Fever says you 'have to leave it in reverse to shut off the engine'. Not the first time I have read that.

reverse shutoff

I have the 2005 vette owners manual (available from helm.com $25 +$10 for Nav supplement. It's very clear on how to shut off engine --just press the start button--to get out of acc. mode put 6 speed in reverse!!! iF YOU DONT OR PUT IN IN A FOWARD GEAR YOU COULD DRAIN THE BATTERY!

you also have to push in the clutch and push on the brake pedal to start the C-6 with a 6 speed.
