I purchased my Z06 about five weeks ago from a private party. The car has California personalized plates. My credit union, who financed the car, performed the transaction and DMV registration. The previous owner filled out a form to release the plate whereas I filled out the form requesting the plates. I was told that the plate would be released and then transferred to me. This week I received a transaction receipt from the DMV, on which lists a generic license plate number. No mention of the personalized tag that I transferred and PAID FOR. Does anyone have any information on how the DMV operates its personalized plate program or how to successfully transfer personalized plates? My plates are still on the car and they didn't send any replacement ones. Nor will I go to the DMV to swap out my personalized ones. They are mine, I paid for them and they can take me to jail. Any advice on how best to handle this situation would be appreciated. Currently, my Credit union is looking into the situation. If they can't provide an answer to me today (Fri), I will go to the DMV in person on Monday. I have govermental BS!.

Craig,

I did a sticker swap on my 1981 personal plates.. I have veteran plates on Rare 81, When I got the original plates there were very few options, since then I see they had Viet Nam Veteran Sticker so I went to DMV.CA.GOV website here you will find a lot of information, but I ended up calling and talking to them about the change.

The first person was a total IDIOT, :( asked to talk to his supervisor, Explained to the supervisor my request and it became a NON Issue.. got the sticker in 3 days for my current plates :upthumbs

Good Luck

Bud,

It sounds like even a simple sticker swap with the same owner can be a problem. I truly hope that my vanity plate transfer between owners doesn't take too much effort to resolve.

Thanks for the reply,

Craig

Craig, are you a AAA member? If so, it will make it all the easier to handle it from their offices instead of the DMV's. At least you'll get more of a sympathetic ear there. ;)

Ken,

I am an AAA member. I thought about that route, but was worried about geting another middleman involved. My thinking was that if my Credit Union as well as AAA started inquiring about the same issue to the DMV, that it might tie things, or confuse things even more. I mentioned AAA to my credit union and they said that since they initiated the transfer that it is best to let them track it. I just called and left a prodding message. Patience is a virtue, so they tell me.

Yep, that's what they say. But I'm the type who wants patience, but I want it now! :L

Ken, I fully agree. On that note (wanting it NOW), I did call AAA. They looked into their system and saw that the DMV issued me sequential plates. AAA stated that there must have been a problem with the form. Nonetheless, they told me that once I get my sequential plates, to take them and my front personalized plate into them and they will get it corrected. I Will simply keep my personalized plates and relinquish the sequential ones.

There ya go! Keep a positive attitude and everything'll work out. ;)
