CA Emissions Legal Camshaft

I have an '86 4+3 w/aluminum heads. Anyone have any recommendations for a California emissions legal camshaft? Is the horspower gain worth the swap combined with some port work and aftermarket intake?

I have a ZZ9 cam in my 90, with Airflow research heads, and a super ram intake, MSD and 24 pound injectors, and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

I have smoged it 3 times now, passing all times.

This is using the stock chip, and stock exhaust manifolds with stock exhaust. (pre cats and the main cat).

After I rip into it and swap a few of the parts out.

After doing the swap, I lost a lot of low end grunt that it had stock, but it makes up for it at about 3000 rpms ripping the tires loose when the cats are missing.

Thanks for the info. I called TPIS and they said even their Super L98 profile Flat Tappet cam, mentioned in their Tips book, would not pass. However, they did recommend a Comp Cam Pn.12-402-4. Anyone running this cam? I have read a few threads of peaple running the Crane 2040. I'm not sure if that cam is emmissions legal.

My car only has 83K miles on it, but has the famous smoke on cold start syndrom. While I have the heads off would be a good time to tweak the top end.

The Comp Cams Pn.12-402-4 is listed as a emissions legal unit. I will probably try this as well as some mild port work combined with an aftermarket intake system. I am also looking into a different gear set.

Mods to date are: Flowmasters, Jet stage 1 chip, K&N with modified lid, airfoil, modified MAF.
