can the charcoal in the vapor canister of my 79 vette be changed? does anyone know how to test the solenoid(s)? on top of the canister? need to smog my vette soon and this is the first time it will be tested- thanks in advance Dkay

The evap canister can be replaced, but unless you have reason to believe your evap system is faulty, I'd go see if it will pass first.

If it is faulty, check your evap system hoses and your fuel tank cap, first.

As for testing the evap system, instructions might be in the 1979 Service Manual.

Have the car pre tested so you don't get sent to a referee.

A "pretest" is good idea but flunking the smog check does not automatically send you to a state referee station.

The important thing to do is review the factory service manual then make sure the evap components are all installed and working properly.

Unfortunately, with an old car that can be tough, especially if you need to install new hoses.

Just remember, the evap test is your State government taking care of you.

Getting tagged as a gross polluter can send to a referee.

When in doubt, pretest.
