Folks, I just wanted to pass along some info I have received over the past few weeks pertaining to Bloomington Gold and the Callaway Special Collection display. There are 19 slots for the Special Collection and I have been advised that an adjacent area is set-aside for other Callaway Corvettes in attendance.

In October 2003 - the announcement was made relating to the event; by mid-November I had submitted the stories and pictures compiled on various cars of owners interested in being considered for the show. What started as a handful of pictures, turned into what is best described as, "a magazine, sans binding" - It was beautiful and weighed more than a Dupont Registry magazine :eek

I have been in contact with the Event Director about the process and am pleased to say, he will be selecting cars for this over the next couple of weeks.

As of now, I am not aware of the list of cars selected, other than than the B2K racecar and one of the Speedsters. ...stay tuned

This should be a GREAT event - more details to follow as I hear them :upthumbs

Here is the press release from the event:

INVITATION: Special Collection XX in 2004

The Corvettes of Reeves Callaway

Bloomington Gold Corvettes USA proudly presents the performance Corvettes of Reeves Callaway as our 2004 Special Collection XX.

Reeves Callaway is an automotive enthusiast, race driver, engineer and car constructor. Starting with European cars, his super-tuning and turbo-charging gave the extra performance owners and manufacturers were demanding. His first mark on Corvette came in 1987 with Option #B2K, a 345HP twin-turbo full engine modification made to the production car by Callaway. That was just the beginning!

Special Collection XX will present the history of the Callaway Corvette by showing you the production-based cars, the racing cars, and the very special C7, C12, LeMans, SuperNatural and Speedster series Callaway cars. A very special "Special Collection" indeed!

AN INVITATION: Bloomington Gold has always extended an open invitation to Corvette owners for future Special Collection events. If you own a Callaway Corvette, and would like to be considered for Special Collection XX, please send photos, copies of documentation, and a brief history to: William Locke, Event Director, PO Box 459, Huntsville, NC 28070.

Thank you!

Pete, From the list of cars I passed along to the Bloomington Folks, I have heard this as of last night - they have started to review the cars in their files, including those I sent to Bloomington, and should have a preliminary list in the next several days.
I have asked them to contact the owners directly however, I have asked that all cars in the packet I sent be considered for many reasons that we have all discussed in the past :upthumbs

I hope everyone in that packet receives a slot :v

As soon as I hear more, I will certainly pass along all of what I hear :beer

Looks like a Callaway seminar will be offered at Bloomington :cool

Is there anything in particular that you would like to see covered of shown at the event? If so, post your idea's here or e mail them to me -

Here is your chance to possibly get that one burning question answered about the Callaway Corvettes :upthumbs

Chris,

The twin turbo's are getting up there in age. Although some owners have them strictly for their collectability, some owners do drive these great torque monsters from time to time. Although I am sure nobody wants to hear a sales pitch :D , and some of these things have been discussed here piece-meal and from time to time, it might be good to hear from Callaway any maintenance items that should be addressed on these cars like replacing turbo coolant lines (which get brittle over time with the heat in the engine bay).

I think the best approach to this would be for them to go over the components of the B2K package, maybe with the assistance of a slide show, that way it is informative to non-B2K owners in the crowd, everybody learns, Callaway can pitch maintenance items and upgrades, and we all keep up with these great cars.

Even the folks including the B2K in the NCRS judging could benefit from that.

Just an idea!

-Luigi

Luigi, That is an excellent idea and you are absolutely on track, mentioning that this is for Callaway Owners and enthusiasts who may not have one (yet;) )

In addition to your sugestion, General history & Development along with technical data are all things looking to be covered - Great input :m

Bloomington Update:

Looks as if the Bloomington Gold Special Collection invitations have been making their way to their destinations. A total of 22 Callaway's were invited to this historic event with another 2 Callaway Corvettes selected for what is called, the "Bloomington Gold Hall Of Fame". That designation has only been awarded to 66 cars since its begining which consists of rare originals, race cars, special production, and styling cars.

Your Bloomington Gold "Special Collection XX" invitation covers your admission for two, to the show for Fri - Sun (Thurs., present your invitation upon arrival for entry).

Trailer parking is available:
Each car owner with a trailer will be given a complimentary trailer parking pass for the Pheasant Run lot. You can unload their car, take the trailer to the lot and leave it for the weekend, and drive the tow vehicle back and forth from Pheasant Run to your hotel, etc.
In addition to the Special Collection, there is the Callaway "GoldInvitation" field. Callaway Cars will also have an area outside the Special Collection designated as such and if registered, reunite these awesome cars on the Gold Field.
Prices for that are, $30.00 for one day 2 ppl & Callaway Vette or, $80.00 for a 4 day admission for two & Callaway Vette.

:v :w

Luigi, here is more info:

Folks, in your invitation, Bill - the Event Chairman, has asked for a 4x6 picture and for you to prepare a story about your car. The story will be in the event program (the one produced for Special Collection/Hall of Fame). Story length should be about 200 words or so.
(...this is in addition to the form you fill out & return for the display @ the car)
This is a very special event and these details will make it one of the most memorable times you & your car will have :upthumbs

200 Words?

That's not a story... that's a blurb. Yikes. I've got some serious editing to do I guess. They never mentioned that in the invite. I have come to realize that I really don't have what I would consider to be a good picture of my car. :eyerole Only one I actually like has my ugly mug in it. With the landscape brown and dead around here there aren't any good photo settings either.

(Just this post is over 70 words...)

Kevin, you are right about the invite, another Owner asked for clarification as it said to prepare a story about your car, but didn't give much guidance. I got the word straight from the Event Director and I think you will be VERY impressed with the program they are putting together :upthumbs

these are all nice pic's :m

Chris, so in addition to the 20 word summation on the Specification sheet, they would like an addtional 200 word or so write up?

Mark, Yes - Feel free to use the COTM writeup if you wish however, it is appx. 450 words +/- By leaving out the specific components that are in the "bulleted" area, you could reduce the word count by 100 words +/-
Hope this helps :m

DEADLINE Friday 4/16/04

Just a reminder :)

This Friday is the Deadline for submission of your story, photo, and release forms back to Wm. Locke @ Bloomington.
Please send all information to the North Carolina address which is listed on your cover letter. :v :w

I was just wondering, those of us shipping our cars up. Even though I am using an enclosed carrier, and my car will be clean when it gets loaded on, I have no idea how clean it will be when it arrives. Do the event people arrange to have our cars cleaned up prior to their being displayed? Since I'll be flying in I do not expect to take anything to clean it once it arrives.

I got word today that 1/4 tank of gas will be allowed - Your invitation form asked for 1/8th of a tank which is of course warned against in your Callaway Owners Manual :upthumbs
:beer and for the more sophisticated :m

Gold Tour

Folks, I was asked about the Bloomington "Gold Tour" and Callaway's being in it -

The answer I got back was if your Callaway has been invited to be part of the "Special Collection XX", "The Road Tour goes off on Saturday, and the cars will not be able to be taken out of the ballroom until Sunday at 3PM" .

Sorry to report this if you had planned on doing the drive - However, Stay tuned for other Callaway related events on that Saturday :upthumbs
