Proud poppa to a beautiful 1988 Callaway Corvette
A little off topic, but did Callaway really do a conversion on 944s at one time?

By no means my favorite Porsche of all time, but if it has Callaway parts under the hood, then it has definitely earned a second glance.

Check it out here.

Tried the link for more pics, but it doesn't seem to work...

If this is the real deal, what is the Callaway community's take on the car?

Justin

Justin, Callaway Cars certainly did work on many German makes in the 80's. In fact, BMW 3 series cars are one of the very reasons the company recieved its stellar reputation in turbocharging.

(Alfa TT's are why there was an RPO B2k ;) )

As always, before buying any Callaway modified or made car, contact the factory w/ the VIN # to verify it is the real deal :cool

Personally, if the car checked out, it might make for a fun driver :cool

I demand a recount :mad... I want to see pictures of the engine compartment :confused... But all honesty... I have no idea. Maybe someone can shed some light on this topic.

Callaway did turbocharge the 944 Porsche. Somewhere around here I have a brochure. If memory serves me correctly... it often does not... they took normally aspirated 944's ('85 and earlier and added turbos). That car being a '87 is a factory 944 turbo. I doubt it's in any way a Callaway 944.

I guess I remembered right. The car described and pictured in the add is not the Callaway 944... the one in the link you posted is. :confused

Luigi, great link for that fellas restoration page! :upthumbs

It does say the exact same thing 90Callaway said - early cars were the ones worked on - Not saying the 1987 couldn't have been on High St. before - just verify first as it was later in the decade... verify, verify, verify! ;)

I thought this invoice image was cool -

That invoice should have a little checkbox for "Turbocharge" right next to "Oil Filter" and "Tune up"

Where do you guys learn all of this stuff? Did a quick google search last night and came up with nothing about Callaway working with the 944s, but didn't strain myself looking either.

Sure looks like it could be a fun car if it is indeed modified by Callaway... Can't afford it now though as something else is in the works...:D

Thanks for the information guys. Take care.
