Hey Bob...

...yet another flash of brilliance from the Kid....as i approach the stage of firing up the sb with the new Vortech supercharger, i remember one of the guys helping me with the install say that my headers now look kinda small...i have the Hooker side pipe headers running into a repop set of side pipes...

with the supercharger, i'm not as worried about large tubes sacrificiing low end torque....but i need to drive it around first......

....i know that your side pipes are old and of better quality than i can buy today....what's your opinion of the hooker header/sp combination?

anyone is welcome to give their opinion of these sp's for my small block

noise? i LOVE noise......i could run with open headers if allowed

thanks!!!

Joe,

My only complaint with the Hookers is that they don't curve around the frame quite as nicely as the old Kustom Header sidemounts. However, that company has long ago gone belly up, and it's only aesthetics anyway.

Although they fit onto the old L-71 427 fine, I know I had to grind quite a bit off the header flanges to clear the lower head bolts on the 502.

With well over 500 lb-ft. of torque at 2,000 rpm (and it climbs way up from there), I don't worry about pipe-size/length as it relates to low-end torque. ;)

In any case, I do love the sound...........especially cruising at 2,500 rpm in 2nd, where the rumble can be felt in your lungs. :D

Exhaust ..Sch..most....Your talking about little bits and pieces of HP. 5-10-15 ...etc.. Your ears will be filled with the sound of side pipes and the whine of the supercharger.

Your eyes will be glued to the temp gauge and the Battery Gauge. Header pipe size.....aaaaaaaaahhh..I wouldn't worry bout it.

I be more concerend bout making sure I had enough "Kuba- Kubas" and Mar-tunies...for after the first ride.:D

...OK, OK, probably overkill, you're right

67HEAVEN is right about the bb, though, i had to do a LOT of grinding on the hooker sp headers to get them to clear that one low head bolt......

......MAYBE what I ought to do is install the DC motor-driven exhaust cutouts just below the collector AND network them to my Bluetooth cell phone.....

..THAT way, I could just yell "WHO'S YA DADDY" into the cell phone and scare the crap outta grandma sitting at the light.....hmmmmmmmm, i have the genesis of a business idea here:rotfl

as always, i owe this ALL to my friends on the CAC;worship

DC motor-driven exhaust cutouts

Yah- Know.... That's a cool Idea... Tha't'll work... Mo Money Mo Money..... You might well do it. It's allready unique..being the only SB SC-ed Vette I've ever seen. So..just keep adding Unique stuff ..:beer

I assume that your primary pipes are 1 5/8". 1 3/4 would probably show a horsepower increase in the upper rpm range but I doubt that you will ever notice it on the street. Hot Rod did some tests on headers a while back. On a hopped up small block street performance engine larger primary tubes did show an upper rpm improvement in horsepower but, contrary to popular belief, smaller primary tubes (with no other engine changes other than tuning) did not show any increase in low end torque on the dyno at Westech.

I think you will be happy with your combo as is.

BTW I was standing in front of the Shells restaurant in Daytona Beach last Saturday night trying to talk to Rick (c5vetter) on the phone when a black C5 convertible stopped for the light. Between the supercharger whine and the exhaust note it had everyone on the street looking. I know that my blood was pumping faster. Your car is going to sound great. :D
