Thanks

I pulled my 82 engine and did a total rebuild. Socor has a cracked cylinder, so he has to do the same.

cam pull

well I have yet to pull the engine, but to take out the cam I have taken out the radiator and fan assembly. water pump harmonic balancer (need a puller) and then timing cover and chain then took the the lifters and rods out, and losened the fuel pump. then just pulled the cam out.

quite a bit of tear down to get there

Believe it or not, Drew, it will take half the time you already spent to pull the engine. :)

yah I am sure of that but I wanted to figure out the problem before I pulled the engine cause it might have been just a head gasket. I also don't have a puller or an engine stand, but they will be on the to get list. I am going to pull the tranny as well, to inspect the tranny and clutch. and it has been useful having it in to measure for intake and carb height, to see what will fit under the hood.

Thanks for the reply Drew. Shop wants 6-8 hours to do it. Maybe I'll just let them at it. I hate doing that. They seem to fix one thing and break another.

Jim

C'mon Jim,

You have spent so much quality time with that 82 you know how to do it. You know all about the Crossfire and not many shops do. 8 Hours doesn't seem like enough time to do it right. They will have to do the whole tune up afterward and there's a lot to mess up there.
You can do it!
Or come on down to Rochester, and I'll help you!

Pete

yah you can do it.

I enjoy taking things apart, and figureing things out. but now I am down to a decesion. zz4 short block, or a 330 hp vortec long block.
