If your not sure which way your going to go...then hold off on the cam.. I think the cam necessary for supercharging is different than for a good heads and cam package.
Hindsights 20/20 but I'd pass on the cam and do a supercharger even with the long tube headers...JMO..
I think a LPE GT3 cam is best for supercharger...ie...blower cam but its not all that great for a heads /cam car...
When the Kenne belle s/c hits this winter I think a lot of other types superchargers will drop a bit in price...
I think you can do 420rwhp with stock heads/Comp 921 dual spring kit and the LG G3X5 114lsa cam...(but thats too much for a supercharger) so decide up front where you want to go...(figure 440 to 475rwhp with AFR heads)
Some guys have said the G3X5 with its 114lsa is a pretty good street cam...IF I didn't have to worry about emissions here in jersey..I'd have probably gone that route...Its pretty dam impressive...
I can say the 224/224 .563 114lsa cam with dual cranes is a sleeper package ....IMHO...but some may question that. I just think 1 year or 2 years later....the cams not powerful enough and I want more...(not going nuts at the track or even the street but I would like more)
Swapping heads at this point with my 224/224 114lsa cam...is only worth about 20 ponies so it doesn't pay.
If your thinking of doing heads later...remember the dual spring kit that supports the various cams is (if I remember correctly?) 300/400 dollars...or more...so your actually better off doing the AFR heads with the dual comp 921's installed and selling off your stock ls6 heads for 750..
I almost did that a few months after I installed the cam with crane dual spring kit....but nobody wanted ls6 heads with the aftermarket spring kit..? Go figure..so I gave up...at that was at 800....I actually had better luck almost selling them without the spring kit ..(which I had just paid quite a few dollars for) Go figure?
Just as well though......the extra money at that point was better spent somewhere else.
If you do the AFR heads? Another suggestion is to probably follow Tony Mamo's of AFR's suggestion to go with his 224/228 .588 114lsa cam
He got some good numbers but tuning was really key. I think he got to 450 rwhp and stock like behavior...A lot of guys were running ~ 430 rwhp with this set up...
Maybe AA Andy is running 224/228 .588 114lsa cams in his supercharger packages so you could go either way...
Check his supercharger cam suggestions first so you can see what flexibility that specific cam affords you...
You don't have emissions testing in florida so you have a lot of choices..
Here in NJ it is like california so that was a big decision maker in chosing my baby" cam...IT passes out in california so I knew I wouldn't have trouble here in NJ...
N/a? I'd look long and hard at the LG cam ....but not sure if you were going to go heads or supercharging....I'd look at the 224/228 114lsa cam...Check out
www.ls1tech.com and do a search AFR heads to see the read out on it..
definitely dual comp 921's...as the valve springs are the weak link in any aftermarket cam setup and they are the best out there...
Thats the place to spend the money if you go with a lift higher than .580...IMHO...
Lose a valve spring and you could lose a motor...With the dual springs your protected so you don't drop the valve......I still believe the comp 921's are the best and have not heard of any breaking...
I chose the crane duals because my lift is a measely .563 and they are rated to .650 but later many tuners suggest its good up to .600...
I like a lot of comfort room on valve spring kit versus cam lift..
Some guys like the new patriot golds which are less expensive valve springs...I'd suggest the 921's..
Don't need any hassles...IMHO
Good luck...
