I was unable to get my friends hood open on his 88 which lead him to bring it to a shop. The shop ownwer was able to open the hood and explained the lock that holds the cable is damaged and needs to be replaced at a price of over $300.00. I looked over my 84 and can see no such locks. My question is, is there a lock that holds the cable? I guess it bolis down to a trust issue. I tried in vein to open the hood, but after a few hours and a few home made tools, I couldn't open the hood. The tool I made was pretty close to the one they sell to get the hood open when the cables fail.
Thank you,
Brimis

I have the tool and have only once managed to get it to work correctly once while testing it in advance.

I went to mid americas site, took a look at it and made the tool out of the end of a pluming snake handel. Got it open in 10 minutes.

Now would be the time to get some 3/16 wire rope and run 2 emergency cords along the lowr windshield with a loop on the cable so you CAN reach in and grab your safety wire and open your hood...

$8 investment in 2 cable release,
