Greetings, i might actually have time to work on the Vette. besides putting the new hood on<finally> i am going to put on a carb spacer as well. i have a selection to choose from. 1/2" wood composite,1/2" aluminum, or a 7/8" plastic composite. hood clearance will not be an issue.

thanks

Robin

there are several dozen types and thicknesses and designs of carb spacers, not to mention materials, most have differant uses and features
its comon for the 4 hole designs to be used to straiten air flow patterns, the single hole designs are comonly used to add plenum volume, both designs tend to increase the rpm range of an intake and CAN in some cases loose low rpm tq in exchange for improved higher rpm breathing potential

the one you install should be to add air flow potential or help air/fuel distribution, first determine what your trying to DO!!

Grumpy, the main reason for the spacer will be to isolate the carb from heat transfer. all three types of spacer i have are four the four hole split plenum manifold.
i am curious about the advantage/disadvantages on the different heights

Robin-
I have used all three materials ; the wood is the best insolator to stop intake heat transfering to the carb base.

I have a 1/2" open spacer, but then it has fuel and nitrous spray bars :D

Cheers

SG, thanks for the info. i will try out the short wood first .soon as i can find the floor in the garage. i know my tools are packed out there....somewhere!

BTW, when are you going to paint the silver car white?

Hey Robin, since the Marine Corps moves me at least every 3 years, here's a tip from a pro: all those boxes in the garage - move them into the living room and the kitchen. Then you'll have all the space you need to work on the Vette! Of course the end result might be something like:

Robin: :D
Mrs. Robin: :mad :nono

Culprit, as a military brat(Navy) i am well aware of the moving situation! and yes Sandie would definately not be thrilled, no matter how many flowers i brought home!hint-she's a redhead

best to you

Robin
