C3L81,
I don't put too much faith in Carfax. I paid the $20 to get the report on my car after I bought it, what a waste of money! I bought the car in Maryland, with the original engine replaced. When I brought it home (PA) to get it titled, they asked the mileage - I told them 168,000 with 35,000 on the engine. They put a 'not actual mileage' designation on it. The Carfax report shows 'Odometer Fraud' because of this. Some states don't even record mileage on titles for cars over 10 years old.
When we repainted the car last spring, it was clear it had been in an accident as the rear quarter had been replaced and probably half of the front fender as well. I had the tires balanced and a wheel is bent. Also, I replaced the driver's door because it was dented in on the inside - I'm thinking someone spun it into a guard rail - body damage only, and the driver's knee probably bent the inside of the door. Of course, nothing like that on the Carfax report. Their ads make it look like you can find anything about the car's history by having them run their little check (scam)
So, if I wanted to sell my car and a potential buyer did a check on it, they could dispute that a car almost 25 years old has more than the over 168,000 miles reported on it.
Just my opinion.
