(I don't think this is too far off topic and I hope it sticks.)

Despite some nasty individuals in our society, the basic goodness in peoples' hearts never ceases to amaze me. A local boy of six years has been in and out of hospital for months owing to a bout with leukemia. He needs a bone marrow transplant. Recently a suitable donor has been located through our national bone marrow registry.

The parents are middle class and at the stages in their careers where a mortgage and child-rearing costs take a big bite out of the paycheques. While Canada has a pretty fair basic/universal health care system, it does not cover all. The child must be moved to a specialized facility in another city for a period of three months. The parents will be uprooted for that time as well. You can imagine the incremental costs associated with that.

I have worked with the local Police force in the past on "Take it to the Track" days designed to encourage young car enthusiasts to do their racing there and not in the streets at 3:00am. I was informed last week by the Police that the entire street (18 homes) where the boy lives would be shut down today for a fund-raising event. (it was mentioned on TV last Friday.) And asked would I drop by with a couple of Corvettes to spark some crowd interest. I did so.

What an event! There was a band, many games for the kids, hotdogs, garage sales, pizza, cotton candy, and much more. Everything was donated by local residents and businesses. All proceeds go to the transplant fund. Hundreds of people showed up.

Corvetting can take many twists and turns!

That's the mascot of the NHL's Ottawa Senators. And many kids had their pics taken on the Harley. It took me about 15 minutes to get the clear pics as the crowds were pretty thick.

That's my former 1979.

And of course....

That's awesome!! I see a little leg hanging off the Harley... I guess someone was more interested in bikes than Vettes? :L

The Police Harley was very popular with the kiddies. Especially with the lights flashing and siren on! The Police Officer is in community relations and knows how to do these events up well.

Nice gesture you and your brother made, Paul.

Since there's a really nice midyear in those photos ( ;) ), that'll keep this thread from a move to ORL-land.

Anyone else looking for similar treatment better be real creative. :L

Thanks Bob. Much appreciated! You have a good memory. Yes, I sold the 1979 to my younger Brother.

Nice Job Paul, hope it gave him a smile, did you take him for a ride?

Tom M

Tom,
The boy is on chemo and very nauseated. Thus a ride was not possible.

Paul allthough I am sure you did not post this to be told how nice you are.I am going to say it Thanks for Getting invoulved. its very nice of you.

Years ago I used to wonder how the folks who get invoulved with there comunities had the time to do it.I used the think well maybe they dont have jobs or they only work short days shurely there not as busy as me,I am a busy guy.

Well thank goodness,I realized they dont have the extra time.they all work just as hard as me and just as long of hours as me.They MADE the time. So now I also make the time to get invoulved with my communitie not just with monetary support but also with pitching in time.
I have to tell you its very rewarding to give back to your comunity.Get
invoulved.

Stop in at the town hall where you live and you would be suprized at how many programs your towns or villages are actually doing that hardly anyone knows about ,and all of those programs gcould use a helping hand. Some of the things are as easey as going toy shoping for needy children at Christmas,(bet you did not realize they may be needy families in your village) Giving a sick child and a parent a ride to the hospital for medical treatment because they dont own a car. (I thought every one owned a car) Any ways GET INVOULVED. I was lucky I was recruited to give some time, other wise I would still be thinking "how do all these people have the time to do this"

Great job Paul You should be very proud

Lastly dont question the whys of something,or be judgemental just do it.

I recently got the owner of a local cab company to provide a weekly ride to the doctor for a person who needs treatment (NO charge) the comapny has cars all over the county. The owner of the companies wife just found out who the ride was for and decided it was the parents falt for not having the means to get to the Doctor and she will not provide free rides any more.Make it the parents problem. (She was judging the situation) I asked her to do the run herself and send me the bill I would pay it imediately.

She did the run and called me back crying saying she would continue to do the run at no charge and also voulenteered for a different family in a different town to do the same thing. She has children also and never stopped to count her blessing.

We all must give back to our cominities
