I just got my carpet in after ordering from Corvette America. Black Carpet 801 is the #, I think. When I lay the old carpet next to the new carpet the new carpet has a purple tint instead of the dark, rich black of the old carpet in the unfaded spots. I found a paper tag stapled the bottom of the original carpet that says "E. T. something something ... 848 Black ... 1977 Model Year 1/3/77". I'm afraid that if I install this carpet that when I go to do the door panels that the carpet on them might be a whole new shade of black. Is there such thing as 848 Black? I don't want to pick the carpet people to pieces over this but it just doesn't look like the same black as what I took out of my car. Could someone please enlighten me as to the correct carpet code for this year why my tag says 848 black or why I may have two diffrent colors of carpet? Thanks in advance.

Ive always noticed that black carpet fades to purple.I would say if your carpet is already a little purple then it will probably fade fast.Good luck:w

I know this is about 3 years to late but I just found it. The tag your referring to is the tag attached to the carpet from the manufacture. ET. BARWICK MILLS. There should be one attached to the front carpet set as well as the back carpet set. These tags are also date coded and the date should read no more then 30 days before the build date of your car.
The numbers you’re looking at are just part of the manufactures part number. Front carpet set part number is 4581848 and the rear carpet set is part number 0367678.

Return your carpet. You may have gotten a bad dye lot. I agree with you; black should look black, not purple.
