I gonig to order my complete set of carpet to put in this spring. The only questions I have is which kind of glue to use. I was told to use the 3M Spray glue, but I'd rather take everyones opinion on here because you guys know best!:D If I were to use the 3M glue how many cans do you think I would need? I would like to have everything I need before I start. Thanks!

My concerns would be whether the 3M spray glue is tough enough to successfully fasten the carpet pieces to the console side trim so you couldn't accidentally pull it off. You also wouldn't want the heat from parking in the sun to soften the glue and loosen it. Another area would be the carpeted left side dash trim panel. The carpet has to conform to the shape of the part and it needs to be fastened securely.

Do you have any other glue in mind?

I've used both the 3-M stuff and another product called STA'-PUT which is sold by RV dealers to glue carpet on the ceilings of RVs.

Both work well but the STA'-PUT really works well. Look for their Multi Purpose Spray Adhesive SPM.

One aerosal can (16 oz) of STA PUT Multi-Purpose Spray Adhesive SPM will do the entire job.

Thanks, I'll take a look and see if I can find that TA-PUT spray.

At Least They Make Good Glue

I almost hate to say this and I expect to be flamed now but I use a contact cement in the shop that is far superior to anything I have ever seen before. A few years ago cup teams used this stuff to glue gaskets in place (everything is "O" rings now) and unfortunately it is sold by Ford. We needed something really good because inferior adhesives would give up half way through a race and gaskets would move around and leak; especially valve cover and intake manifold gaskets. We tried everything and this stuff was the best. If you have to be absolutely sure it will not come apart you gotta get this stuff and try it, you won't believe how good it is. It is a waterbased adhesive and is sold brush-in-can. It goes on as a thin white liquid and you have to coat both surfaces and wait a few minutes for it to flash off. When it turns clear it's ready to press the parts together and you will not pull them apart again.

I like to use the 3M spray adhesive, it worked perfectly when I did my carpet. I can see why they didn't use anything stronger, because eventually you have to change the carpet, so if you use a stronger cement it will be a nightmare to remove the old carpet.

The 3M carpet adhesive is probably the best bet to use. It's easy to find and it does hold the carpet well but still allows for easy removal of old carpeting. Like any adhesive, the trick to having it work correctly is to follow the instructions!

You should be able to get by with one can, but because you should be able to find it at most auto parts stores, if you do run out, another can will be easy to find.
