To those of you that have installed carpet... I'm planning on using Reflectix which several of you have mentioned in previous threads to use as a heat barrier. Did any of you do any type of prep work on the floor board other than giving it a good cleaning? Also, did you use any type of adhesive between the Reflectix and the floor board, or between the Reflectix and the carpet or padding?

Thanks All.

I had metal floor pans. Unsure of what year your car is so I don't know if you have metal or fiberglass pand. I Scraped up the loose material, vacuumed it out and painted it with POR-15

I then covered it directly with Reflectix, glueing it in place with GM spray adhesive.

Placed the carpet over the Reflectix using no glue.

hello, i cleaned the 'glass' with some purple-stuff cleaner. also fixed a few cracked areas with a quicky 'glass' repair kit. then i sprayed 3M adhesive on the floor and insulation. pushed it all down in the nooks and crannies. put weights and bracing to hold it all together. started carpeting the next day....wife says i tend to be 'anal' about some things<is that good or bad>

Bobchad. I have a 68. I'm presuming I have a metal floor pan as well. Do you get the POR-15 at a store like Lowes?

Robin7TFour... I'm totally lost on your replay. Are you refering to fiberglass?

Thanks all!

Your 68 does not have the metal floors. Your 68 has fiberglass floors.(I think metal floors started on 76's or 77's when they started putting cats in the exhaust)

As far as Robins post I think he was talking about fiberglass. If your floors have any cracks or holes there is a kit to repair them.

Just clean the floors, then I agree with Bobchad

i apologise, for not being clean. yes i cleaned and repaired,as needed, the fiberglass floor.

Where to get Reflectix

I am planning on replacing the carpet on my 75 vette this weekend, where did you get the Reflectix?. I remember reading somewhere, that Lowe's sells something similar to that material, but I do not recall the details.

Also, any tips on how to replace the carpet will be greatly appreciated. I already have the carpet and the 3M adhesive.

Thanks,

Luis

POR15 is bought off the Internet. Google search will find it.

Reflectix is found at Lowes. Other than what has already been posted, lay the carpet out flat for a couple of hours in the heat to get it to lay flat.

Correct bobchad. Just so the Reflectix is easy for you to find Luis, go back to the roofing section (usually toward the back of most stores). They have various width's and lengths in prepackaged rolls. I bought one that was around $25 which the rest of the gang here says that roll should be enough for the job. I'm also going to use it in the engine compartment opposite of the floor panels and between the transmission and tunnel. That should kill the heat a little more.

I would be careful using the Reflectix under the car. I used it under the carpets in my 72. I seem to recall a max temp rating of around 180 degrees. It might get a bit warmer in areas under the car. That Reflectix looks real similar to bubblewrap, but with aluminized surfaces, and I have seen how well bubblewrap burns.

Just my thoughts...

hmmmm.... good thought to ponder on. I'll have to look at the temp. rating on the Reflectix. Thanks!

I've heard that some people have also used that Rhino Liner type stuff as well. Is that available where you can do it yourself?

Luis ... If you're asking about install sequence, I used this on a '71 vert that came out well. 1st the rear wheelwells then the back deck then the driver/pass sides last the bulkhead behind the seats . Good luck, you will like the results
