Carpet question

I'm new here and have looked thru the archives. I'm in the process of replacing the carpet in my 78 and was wondering if there should be a plug or something in the holes that are located in the middle of the floor pan or are they there for some sort of drainage? Have to wait for my POR-15 so I can treat the floor before proceeding - hope it is as good as you all say.

The holes in the center of the floor pans had plugs. The holes in the area where the seatbelt retractos go need to be left open for drainage. I did my floors using POR15 and covered them with Reflectix insulation that I bought at Lowes to insulate. Made a big difference.

Already have the Reflectix and now I have to wait while I get some plugs but don't want to do this twice so I'm in no hurry.
 
Believe it or not....I just finished putting down my heat-insulation! I've got one full layer of sound-proof stuff. (from JC Whitney) Then I have a layer of foil-backed heat-insulation. I did a double layer for the floor pan areas.

The next things will be new carpet, and repainting my interior silver.
 
Well, I had a few bucks in my pocket and some free time. With what I need to do next, I will need more bucks for sure.

I went to Pep-boys this weekend and saw some nice seats. (Of course, I'll be happy enough just to put my seats back in there!)

I'm getting excited Bob, cuz next year is when I had planned on starting work on my car. I was lucky that I was able to rebuild the rear components ahead of schedule. (got the boring stuff out the way)

I've got some front suspension stuff that I'ld like to do, but it should be MUCH easier than working on the rear.

Don't tell me that Vic. I have the rear spring and tire carrier out of the car and am about to go crazy back there with POR15. There are a lot of long reaches in tight spaces. I'm sure I'll be the "Gray" man before I get these areas painted.

These projects wouldn't take nearly as long if I wasn't so compulsive about the rust treatment.
 
I think that all of that POR stuff will pay off in the long run for you. You'll not have to worry about rust again!

When I revamped the vette's rear, I even pulled out the rear differential carrier beam. (The black support that the differential bolts onto.) It wasn't too bad. I even replaced the big bushings back there.

I check out your progress from time to time. Your car is really getting there. Some pics look similiar to mine, but that's cuz we've done alot of the same things to it.

I really miss driving my vette. It's more than a car for me, it's like my special place or room.

That beam you are referring to is what is going to change the color of my arms. I don't really want to drop it so I have elected to accept the ineveitable.

Those bushings are expensive. I just bought those aluminum reinforcements and will be putting them on after it is painted.

My car is the same way. It sits on jack stands for a couple of months while I tinker with it, then I put a couple of hundred miles on it, put it back up and pull a couple of parts off.

After this project I'm debating a cam and new heads to go with my new Edelbrock manifold. That's assuming I can pass a leakdown test.

You need to get a Corvette page going. I'd love to follow what you are doing with your car.

Those bushings are expensive indeed. I think that I got mine from zip products. (Wherever I got 'em, they were on sale for nearly 50% off!)

I want to have my car in the same shape that your is in. (Being able to drive it between projects.) My wife knows that I'm working on the interior, so she points out the cracks in my dash and asks if I buy those new parts too. If I had to save up for all of those parts, the car would never be completed. So, I opted to just get it back together reasonably and start driving it again.

The cam is not a bad job if you have the patience. I used to have a real radical cam in my car (bought the enginer from a friend), but due to the lack of vaccuum, I elected to change it out. I have a Edelbrock RPM street rod cam in it now. I may change back to the lunati cam, but I want to make sure I have the proper exhaust, ignition, and air for that. (remember my air cleaner?) hehe
