Carpet Underlayment 63 Coupe

Does anyone know if the 63 Coupe had carpet underlayment? If yes, any recommendation on where to buy correct underlayment?

My '67 had horsehair and jute padding underneath the carpet....really nasty stuff. The chances are your car has the same thing. I assume a pad or "sound deadener" is available from vendors, but I fabricated my own.

Since I was going to install some new Al Knoch carpet, I wanted to put in some new padding, since that old stuff stunk so bad from mildew and God knows whatever else over 35 years.

Below in the picture I used a heavy, thin type of commercial rubber carpet pad. I used this pad because I had a whole roll of it just laying in the basement, but man..... it sure is a good sound deadener and heat barrier. I had to cut pleats in it with a razor knife then used 3M spray superglue to attach it to the floor and the rear. Then I taped up the entire job with aluminum tape. Works great for me. Patrick

Underlayment

Thanks Patrick! I assume that mine has the same nasty horsehair under the carpet as yours did. I haven't pulled up yet to verify, but wanted to see what others are doing to replace. Thanks for the tip on the rubber carpet pad and pics.

If you want an NCRS car, the 1963 had NO padding under the carpet, nor did it have insullation of any type. I sent you email, as I bought jute backed with heat reflective felting. Complete set goes for over 129.00 I am selling mine for $75.00 plus shipping.....this is for the coupe. Still in original box, never removed, only a few months old. I am putting an NCRS car together and never bothered to use it. Let me know if you are anybody else is interested.
