Ok, guys when i get my engine back I am going to run synthetic probably 10w40, now which is a better motor oil, Castrol or Mobil 1?

I use - CASTOR OIL!

The greenish extract of a large tropical plant, castor oil has been used for many years to ease constipation and induce vomiting. Basically, it's WD40 for the gastro-intestinal tract.

As any Little Rascals fan knows, castor oil is a notoriously ghastly tasting liquid. Yahoo! Health recommends chilling castor oil in the fridge and mixing with cold orange juice before ingesting to make it more palatable. The mind (and tummy) reels.

But castor oil isn't just for breakfast anymore. Just ask the folks at Jayant Oil Mills Group of Bombay, who host an extremely informative page praising the mutiple-purpose liquid. To quote:
It is somewhat difficult to imagine that, barely a few decades ago, castor oil was valued chiefly as a purgative. Who would have then anticipated the commercial respectability it would attain and the national and international demand it would come to enjoy?

This once dreaded substance is now used in plastics, textiles, paints, cosmetics, and a number of inks and industrial adhesives. The site goes on to explain that one reason for the current popularity of castor oil is due to the fact that its numerous chemical derivatives are "renewable sources, bio-degradable and eco-friendly."

That said, we still hope you never have to drink it. ;LOL

OK, just read Ken's post. How do you clean coffe out of the keyboard? I just spit mine all over;LOL

Seriously, I use Mobil-1 in both my 92 (factory fill) and my 87. I think you'll find that most people will choose Mobil-1 over the other synthetics or blended synthetics. the GM engine designers and engineers still specify it as the proper oil for the LT1, LS1, and LS6 motors.

Mobil-1 runs a bit more, but you can usually find it a Wal-Mart in the 5-quart jugs for around $19 and change. Costco also has 6-pack cases for $24.

Hay Ken, They also used it to lubricate WWI aircraft engines.......

Mobil 1 here. If GM has used it from the factory, you couldn't go wrong with using it. Like Cruiser said, you can get the 5 quarter from Wal Mart for $20.00. They actually dropped the price by a couple of bucks and I have spare 5 quart container sitting around the garage.

While you're at it, may as well use a Mobil 1 oil filter. Kinda costly for $10, but it's worth it and you don't save much money by buying a $3 or $4 filter.

Where do you get a Mobil 1 filter? I have always used the K&N.

K&N oil filters are darn good too. I get my Mobil 1's from Murrays; they stopped stocking the Mobil 1 oil filters but have K&N in stock. I've recently switched to the K&N and I like the 1" hex.

Whatever oil filter you use, stay away from FRAM. It's truly crap. :(

i've been running Castrol Syntec for close to 15 years and will only use it in my performance cars. i'm sure Mobil 1 is just as good but one time my water pump blew in my Z/28 and i was about 5 miles from home and kept driving it home. water temp was pegged at 250 degrees. i came home let it cool down, changed the pump and fired it up and ran as good as new.

you guys are probably wondering why i'd run the car that hot for a few miles but the reason is simple. i WANTED too blow and it didn't :( i had another motor that i was going to put in it (400 sbc) but wanted to kill the 305 first and it never died :(

finally killed it after a few 6700 rpm runs at valve float......lol well not killed cause it still ran even after that! that ole 305 was the strongest motor i have ever had. it suffered my abuse from 18-24 and never missed a beat. it just finally bent some push-rods :L

so after that torture test i figured Castrol Syntec was for me :D

I own a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire which has only tasted Mobile 1 over the years and it I’m happy to say I’ve had absolutely no mechanical problems with the car. Oh, did I mention it has +208,000 miles on it? ;)

Wow, 208,000+ on a Pontiac? :L That deserves a big :upthumbs

Yes, it's been quite a good little car. Besides all of its major components it still has the original clutch, brake rotors! Not to shabby. This car was my second Sunfire, the first gave its life to save my wife and my life. (A FedEx delivery truck pulled out in front of us trying to cross a divided highway and hit the Sunfire almost head on.) :upthumbs

Another nice note, when I called GM to ask for the Free Corvette restoring packet form my Corvette, I told the customer service woman how great the Pontiac was. She was very happy to hear about such a high mileage car being trouble free that she sent along a coupon for a free oil change just as thanks for letting GM know about it. That was a pleasant surprise.

Mobile 1 in my Z06.....Castrol in my Turbo Diesel BUG

bug gets 45mpg......thank goodness given the price of gas!!!!!

I had a Furd Escort and I used Mobil 1 and it ran 220000 miles before I sold it and it was still going strong! credit, mobil 1

Are their significant differences between the leading synthetic motor oils? And if their is how about some proof. I run castrol in my car and always will unless i get a new one that calls for mobile. The reason i like castrol is because my neighbor had his 67 rebuilt and he had problems with it blowing the oil filter off. He was a half mile from the house when he heard a noise and looked down and saw no oil pressure. He then turned the car around and drove it home. Corrected the oil filter problem and the motor never missed a beat.
