Did the '81 come with a heat shield above the cat? My car had the original cat on it but no heat shield...nothing that looks like the one in the assembly manual. I have since put on a replacement cat but would like to add the heat shield if available.

Thanks,

Lanny, i just looked under my '81 and i have a heat shild over my cat and it looks just like the one in the assembly manual. Hope this helps.

Yes mine has (had) one. It's sitting on the shelf in my garage. I'll go take a picture of it for you.....

Dave

p.s. the original GM part # was 14028578.
It has been discontinued. 80 and 81 are the same.

More information than you probably want ;) , but, there is also an aluminum heat blanket under the passagers seat too ;) if you peel back the carpet you'll find it under the thick black sound deadning "Stuff"..

I had a "Flow Thru Cat" installed with a heat shield, I also just replaced all the carpets and use the old heat barrier pad and sound deading along with new aluminum barrier material from Lowes for added heat and noice reductions.. Just got back from the 35th Lake Tahoe Corvette run and it works great :D

Yep, that's what the picture in the assembly manual looks like. Now I wonder what happened to the one on my car??

I have replaced the carpet as well and added the heat insulator material under the passenger seat; as well as along the tunnel.
Not sure how well it looks as I just got the car back together and it only made it three trips between my house and where I keep it. On the fourth trip, it died.....fuel pump....so came back on a flat bed.

Any chance you no longer want that heat shield?? Maybe sell it to me????? If so, contact me off Forum.

Thanks for the replies....sure helps
