i was checking out corvettemagazines web page and found this ( caution horse power can be habit forming) they do a few modes like the open the air box, remove screens, H/P went from 194 to 200. then thet added roller rockers, h/p went to 209. BUT then they put long tube headers on, they added 36 horse power hooked up to a borla exhaust!!! thats impressive!!! any one beside mad-mic found this to be ture? dam emmsions testing!!

That's about 50 horses. Add it up, those ponies don't come cheap!

GIVE OR TAKE a few bucks:
--------------------------------------------
$300 = aprox 1.6 RR's
$600 = aprox Headers
$600 = aprox Borla exhaust
--------------------------------------------
$1500 for 50 HP not including labor if you can't DIY! :crazy

50 HP doesn't sound like much, but I was talking to a friend who's Honda Civic had 90+ horsepower. This kind of changed my way of thinking and shrugging off 20 HP here and 10 there.

i think it possable to find good header for less the $600?

$600 is about the area for TPIS headers. Anything TPIS is expensive and I think overpriced. Hooker makes headers for our L98's, 2151 or 2149. One of them is emissions legal while the other isn't, I forgot which is which. I think Hookers are close to $450 or so.

HOK-2149 Hooker Super Competition Ceramic Coated 1 3/4in. for 1984-91 L98-Comes with EGR and AIR provisions (Longtube) $539.95

HOK-2151 Hooker Super Competition 1 3/4in. Headers for 1984-91 L98(Long Tube) $389.95
(prices from hooker)
:D

I have the 2149's on mine. Good stuff!!!:D

Thanks for the corrections, Shane.

I think the TPIS coated long tubes are $750.

I have heard that the fit of the TPIS is hands down the best of the headers out there.

That is also what I've heard.

Can we get some feedback on the fit of the Hookers?

Yes I have also installed the TPIS headers, the fit was awesome. They slid right in. Headers, and roller rockers took about half a second off of my quarter mile times testing with the Gtech. I would say get the TPIS coated headers, it also comes with the 3 inch front Y pipe as well.

Justin,

How long did it take for you to install the headers? Did the exhaust manifolds come off easily?

BTW, I'm headed out your way to Plymouth tonight for work. Wish me luck.:D

Overall it took me and my brother two days starting at noon on saturday, and finishing up at about 3 on Sunday afternoon. I could probably get it done now in 5-6 hours if I had somebody handing me tools. My exhaust manifolds came off easily since they had been off three times previously.... due to the engine rebuilds... :mad .

Good luck tonight in Plymouth, it is so big down there you might get lost ;LOL

California

I was told long tube headers will not pass emissions in California. Is this true?

i can do them in 4 hours start to finish :D

my dyno #'s i picked up 50 rwhp and 70 rwtq dynoed very hot 220+ and blew the EGR off #8 cylinder. i'm guessing add another 30 to both #'s and thas where i would of been.

people act like i'm nuts when i tell them loose those rear mufflers and add headers for the best bang for the buck feel.

I'd like to find an equal opportunity Smog Check shop. For a few bucks I'll pass emissions:L

That's actually not out of the question.... You won't find too many people who fess up to it but they do give you the ;)

I know your time. It was for Rich for two jackstands. But I was just wondering how long it would take "less mad" folks like us.:L

Having done it I can agree with Mic. About 4 hrs. First time will probabally run the average guy 6 hrs or so.

I have not checked current pricing but I bought TPIS ceramic coated headers in the spring of 2000 and with y pipe and shipping I paid $880.00
You can buy headers for less but you will not find any that are better.
