I was at a Vette show this weekend and saw a 1996 CE with a auto trans. I could not see the engine. I was wondering if the CE came with auto trans. I was under the impression that all were six speeds. I know that mine is the LT4 engine and if it was a auto that must mean a LT1.;shrug

The 1996 CE was available as an LT1/auto or as an LT4/stick.

To add to Tuna’s post. The only ’96’s that came “standard” with the LT4’s were the Grand Sports.

I think the 96 Grand Sport auto was a LT1.www.grandsportregistry.com

I have seen a 96 GS with a auto and a LT1, no Red Intake, etc. I was told ALL 96 Corvette's with a auto were LT1. No exceptions or special orders were made in 1996, the only year a LT4 was offered for the Corvette. SLP made a F body in early 1997 with a LT4 and a standard trans.

Hey, Louis.
The LT4 option could be ordered on any coupe or convertible in ’96. Collector Editions (CE) came standard with the LT1. The CE had the option to ad LT4 to the option checkoff box just as any other ’96.

When you ordered a Grand Sport, it automatically came standard with the LT4.

That is true/correct, all ’96’s that came with the auto tranny were LT1s.

I think we’re both on the same page, I may have not worded my previous post very clear, I’m getting old. :L

p.s. I remember the LT4 engined Camaro’s. They’re hard to come by, I’ve only seen two in person since 1996.

If you saw a GS with an auto, it WASN'T a real GS. They never made one. Check for the VIN number, it's GS specific. If it had an auto in it, it's a fake. :beer

You are Correct, I emailed Hutch at GSR. You could order a CE in 96 with the LT1 auto but ALL GS were ZF standard LT4:beer My 96 has all the GS drivetrain and now I have traded the J-55 calipers for a Black pair of 96 GS calipers with the Corvette letters on the front.:)
