Center console latch malfunction

Hey all, I figured this for a common problem but a search didn't turn up anything. I opened my center console a few days ago and when I went to close it, it wouldn't close because the latch wouldn't reset. I can't see how the mechanism works and I don't want to damage it. Anyone else ever seen this before?

Mine has gotten out of alignment before and failed to latch, but usually just rearranging things in the console and making sure I have the lid squared up takes care of the problem.

Thanks Jane Ann, but unfortunately there's nothing in the console getting in the way and the lid isn't misaligned. It looks like a problem with the latch itself.

Ck the catalog companies, you used to be able to buy a c4 latch.
