Picked up our 2000 C5 Convrt. about a month ago (only had 1234 miles on it).........The center Console lid only seems to open about half way.....thought maybe it was because the car had been hardly driven by the orginal owner but it is still doing the same thing.........opens about half way then gets real stiff to the point where I feel like if I try to open it any more it will break something.......just want to know if this is normal on a new C5 and as it gets used it will loosen up or do I need to make some sort of adjustment on it.......don't want to mess around with it till I am sure that it is out of adjustment............

I have a 2002 and it does the same thing . I believe thats the way they are . But I could be wrong. I'm afraid to pull it up anymore.

When it gets to about a 45 degree angle, you then have to lift straight up to open the rest of the way. Do not continue on the same radius trying to open, just lift straight up and then continue the radius. Strange design, but it has something to do with the passenger side rubbing. It allows it to lay flatter and hides the hinge, otherwise it would be a piano type hinge.

Had the same problem. I very carefully sprayed the hinges with G.M. "super lubricant ". It has freed up and worked perfectly ever since. It seems the factory negelected to lubricate the hinges. It is surprising to see how great the cover works when a small amount of this lubricant is applied. Try it, I think you will really be amazed. Good Luck !

Felt the same resistance in my 02 Z06 console lift. Per Backspacer its just a matter of two movements versus one.

1. - Lift normally with a pushing motion until you get resistance.
2. - Continue to lift, but switch to a a pulling motion to complete.

Its a bit awkward until you do it once or twice but becomes second nature.

Really does allow for a larger console opening considering its fit between those snug seats.

Liquid has the right explaination. Pull it towards you a bit when it's about half way up, no lubing necessary!

Anyone notice the dates on this thread? ;)
