I'm repainting my center console. Currently the paint has a textured pattern, kind of like a leather bomber jacket. But I cant tell from looking at pictures or looking up other posts if the center console should have a pattern like this. Any ideas? Should it be smooth or have a texture pattern?

If the texture is wrong, then I will strip to the metal, prime and repaint. If it's correct, then I'm planning on just repainting over it.

I am not following what you mean with "texture" But there is a texture in the metal ( at least on my 66 ),Just last month there was a post about refinishing a console. And alot of folks had a problem with the paint "fish eyeing" the fish eyeing it seems is caused by amoral or simular protective coverings or cleaners.

I will try and do a search to see if I can find the other post.

Good Luck

The "grained" texture (like a vinyl top) is normal - it's cast into the part. Go easy on film build with paint so you don't hide the texture when it's done.

As others have said -- the grained texture is correct. You might want to consider using an air brush for this job as you can apply a light coat of paint.

I noticed you are from central jersey and an ncrs member -- do you also belong to the central jersey ncrs chapter ?? I do.

Thanks everybody,

That's more what I meant like a "grained" texture on a vinyl top. Waiting for paint from LICS.

JL, only belong to the National NCRS, been thinking about the chapter though. That reminds me, I have to renew my membership this month!
