does anyone know where i can find a grill to fit a 74, because i really do not like the way the front license plate holder looks

Very very rare and expensive when you do find it. Maybe $300+. It's not reproduced unfortunately.

You could use one from a '73 (equally rare) by spray painting it all black.

It is not in reproduction so the only hope would be a Vette swap meet or maybe EBay. They are not cheap. Good luck.

tom...

Did 74s or 73s for that matter even come with center grills? I have only seen pictures of them with license plate holders, but i have an assembly manual and it shows a center grill.

center grill on '73

i replaced the center license plate holder with a center grill on my '73. we are not required to have a front license here in NC. i like the look a bunch more with the center grill.

i found out that a center grill was available on the '73 while cruising through the assembly manual.

i trolled ebay for several weeks looking for one. for a simple piece of metal, they do not come cheap. i paid $172 for mine. :crazy

the '73 version will have chrome on the outer edges. the chrome is really not noticeable, and most just paint over it with black.

Most I have seen on EBay are going for somewhere near $300.

i just bought the last one from pipers. it was 500.00. they search the country for these and i was told there arent any around,,unless someone deciedes to part with one. they were available to owners that didnt have frt plate laws..if you ordered a car in illinois it came with a license plate bracket if it was ordered in indiana you got the center grill..the 73 had a chrome leading edge the 74 didnt,,i know a guy who has one for sale,(a 73),but i know its gonna be 475 to 500 and its like mine n o s still in the box , i have a photo of his e mail me and i send it to you he also has the other 2 grills for sale

I was lucky enough to get one off ebay for 26 bucks that was damaged. Half the uppermost horizontal bar was missing and the one below it was bent.

A friend of mine who works at an outboard recycling place as their welder repaired it for me at no charge. He's a very talented welder/fabricator and you can't tell it was ever repaired. I may ask him how much he would charge to build a few of them,it doesn't look like it would be very complicated.

NOS is nice but 500 bucks is crazy money for one of those

Good Luck

Tom

I was lucky when I bought my 73 a few years ago mine had one installed.. At the time I thought that all 73 Vettes came like that... I didnt notice that till I was at a local car show and a guy with an other 73 asked me where I had bought mine...

Supposedly Big632.com is working on aome billet grilles for those years, you might want to contact Mike and ask him. I don't know the full details as I don't have a model year that uses those grilles
