I can't seem to find a center grille for a 73 from any of the big part stores. I saw several 73's with them at Bloomington Gold. Did the 73 have a center grille option? Anybody know where one could be found?

Thanks

front grill

i was lucky my 73 has a center grill,
keep your eye open on e-bay,all metal goes for about $300,plastic repro go for about $65.

good luck
tom

The '73 and '74 share the same basic center grill. 73 has chrome leading edges, 74 is all black. They are not being made in the repo market. Have heard of some plastic one but have never seen them (originals are metal). Have see originals on eBay but cost run from $300 and up.

Would recommend checking the big swap meets like Bloomington Gold and Carlisle plus keeping an eye on ebay.

Good Luck

Thanks...I'll keep my eye out.
I think my 73 has the grilles of a 74 (no chrome) or they have been painted...nice weekend project to figure it out.

I see very few 73's with the chrome leading edges on the grills. Have the feeling that most have been painted over. When they got to looking rough after 10 or 15 years it was much easier just to spray them black.

Check the part number it should be on the backside of the grille.
73 - 331834
74- 342277

I've actually looked at making my own out of metal. It wouldn't be that hard to duplicate out of some stock bar metal and weld together. Once I got one built, I could make several more...

Well I was really lucky mine came with the center grill. I had no idea that they are so hard to find. It sure makes the car front end look cool. Also consider weather in your state it is elegal not to have a front license plate. Here in Texas its against the law not to have one. I have been stoped a couple of times with no problem, I guess it has to do with the police man stoping you to enforce it. Well good luck in finding one.

On my 73 I have the TX plates (Classic Auto). But a center grill would be cool:cool Is it just me - but there seems to be several 73 Corvettes in Texas on the forum (but I guess Texas is a pretty good size place).

Save tghe Wave :w

i have a friend who is going to use my grille to make an aluminum copy. i'll keep you posted when he gets one done. maybe be able to work out some trades;)
