In prepping for lifting the body off of my Vette, I built a Chain Hoist Trolley. Here are some pics:

very creative but the question is : does it work??

BTW I dream about having a tile floor like yours. no lie:z

I'll find out this Saturday! I asked friend of mine who is a contractor to stop by this afternoon to check how the rafters would hold up, He said there should be no problems. He is also one of the many people helping lift the body off. I'll let you know!

I also dreamed for many years of having a checkered floor. I still dream of owning a midyear.....who knows... dreams do come true!

nice idea, been thinking of something like it. (sorta)

I think you should prop a video camera up (digital) and tape you lift off. good Idea for the contractor dont want that beam and your roof falling on ya.

this may sound stupid but whats a midyear?

A midyear is Corvettes made between the years of 1963 and 1967. Those were the new ones when I was young, and they made an big impression on me. Especially the Big Blocks!

My wife will be video taping, and my daughter will be the photographer.

Body Lifted!!

The rafters held!! We had a bunch of people here this morning to help lift the body off the frame. The hoist lacked about 3 inches from clearing the body over the tires. So we all just lifted it while the frame was pulled out and my son pushed the body dolly under. I think I will raise the hoist beam about another 8 inches, so when I put the body back on the frame, there will be good clearance. My brother found my old chain hoist I had many years ago and brought it over. So I now have two chain hoists. That will work out well so I can lift the bare frame and back the lowboy trailer under it when I am ready to take it to have it powder coated. The best part about this morning is that both of my brothers were here to help. Been a very long time since we were all together at one time.

well I am glad to hear that it all worked out well

you will have to post pictures of when you were lifting it and how you modify the hoist

Great Pics and I am glad it worked so well for you. Will you be posting pics of the restoration?

Yes, I plan on documenting the whole project pretty well. It will be somewhat slow going, due to the fact I will be buying parts as I can afford them. I have an idea of what I want to accomplish, but not necessarilly a deadline. An approximate date would be maybe a year. But I will definately post pics along the way. I will also be asking alot of questions from the forum members, so if you have any suggestions, they will greatly be appreciated!
